Jim, just to say hope things went well for you yesterday. I take it from your seeing clinical and medical oncologists that surgery isn't indicated but you should now have a better idea of your treatment. I'm sure it all looks pretty daunting today but try not to be intimidated and start to take it one day at a time. You might want to pull together a few Palace videos to get your through the sessions; one thing they don't stress about chemo is that it's boring :-) No, seriously. We're all in your corner mate. Chin up and you know where to come if you need to talk. HOL is full of cnuts like me, but it has its uses. Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

The surgeons/physicians all meet on a Monday for a conference to discuss the various cases. I was informed on Tuesday of this week that they have decided to operate prior to chemo/radiotherapy etc. The Top Surgeon thought this the best course. Apparently this is 'good news' as obviously I don't have to go through all the chemo/radiology before hand. That said I will probably have to have it after the operation. However the operation is this coming Easter Monday around about the time Palace kick off against City. It takes around 2/3 Hours but according to the nurse involves only an over night stay at the hospital. Pro USA & Israel

That's great news, not because you're avoiding chemo for longer but without knowing anything at all about your diagnosis, surgery is almost always desirable where and if possible (either curative intent or to debulk the tumour, etc.). My treatment has since controlled all of that but it has now spread to my right eye. I have given up work and have just finished 3 weeks of radiotherapy. Physically I have lost weight and now have white hair up red illness I had black hair. Mentally is hard to cope with but life goes on, at least for now. Chemotherapy side-effects can be nasty depending on the meds, but medical advances are changing all the time, alas too late for me. My kids,well adults really, understand and even ex-wife has rallied round!! Now got first granddaughter and just about come to terms that I will not see her grow up. Sorry to hear this Dave, it's one of the reasons I never did this thread earlier in that there are people going to be far worse off than me. I seem to have been fortunate in that mine was caught earlier than most and also doesn't appear to be of the aggressive type. Wishing you all the best Dave...

While the world likes to reduce cancer to a series of misplaced and cliched headlines (battles, victorys, beating it, etc.) which show little understanding of the nature of the illness, the reality in the end is far more banal and what you've said echoes exactly the right attitude to have. Dave -- I hope, and it sounds like you are (as Kermit said) -- in a good place. Enjoy the time you have and reflect on the positive contribution you've made to the lives of those you love. It's quite clear that once gone, you won't be forgotten and that's the best any of us can ask for eventually. But that time isn't now so bask in nights like tonight for the present. All the best. I think that's a great post, Kermit, and i echo the sentiments completely. I couldn't have put it better myself.
