Risking death to make a better life sure trumps some kind of citizenship test. Such bravery and determination does not wash away as soon as they reach shore. I'm not saying any country should be forced to accept these people, just that they display traits that are enviable.

I am not sure the risks are completely understood by those making the journey. I think that manipulators make the journey seem easy and risk free - in return for a fat fee the desperate souls cannot afford.

This is the one thing that for the life of me I've never understood. Why do people pay extortionate amounts of money to these slave traders when in effect all they have to do is buy an airline ticket and book a hotel say in Europe (or the USA If they are coming in from South/Central America)and overstay there Visa???

Cos Easyjet don't work out of Africa Asia and the Middle East.

You can get Ryanair to and from Morocco.

Is that a stab at humour? I should Imagine most countries have budget airlines flying to Europe. That aside who the f*** pays $1000s to sail across the Mediterranean when you can pay $100s just to fly ??

During WW1 we took in 250,000 Belgians in no time at all. We even gave them their own piece of sovereign territory in the North East for the duration. The real spirit of a Great Blighty and the polar opposite of what UKIP are about. They would have turned them back into the waiting barrels of The Hun.

Of course Michael. Whatever you say.

PS. You are officially UKIP obsessed.

I am merely an amateur in comparison with your hyperactive obsession to perpetually undermine the left Matthew and in any which way you can. You should be thanking them you ungrateful oik. Paid holidays, free health care/education, health and safety at work, etc.

Ah! The hypocrisy of the deluded. Michael once again your overwhelming desire to be portrayed as 'right on', when in actual fact you are a work shy layabout enjoying the fruits of your manipulation for your own ends. One can only assume that despite the fact that you are milking the system for all you can whilst blaming 'right wingers' for all the ills of the World is triggered by your feelings of inferiority and guilt.

Anyway, as a reposte to the above gibberish, it is you, you ignorant oik, who owes a debt to the entrepreneurs, the creators of wealth and the sustainers of wealth to pay for your gold plated pension. Titus Salt, Cadburys and one nation Tories have done more to enhance the lives we all lead than the reactionary and hate filled beasts you idolise.

And this has got how much to do with the Mediterranean situation?

You should direct that question to Michael. He brought UKIP into a thread about med migrants and hypothesised that they were solely responsible of the suffering of these poor and desperate people.

Not only is that cheap, it is ridiculous and insulting.

Not how I read it. Just 1 last 'off topic' question, what is your obsession with accusing left wingers of inferiority and guilt? It's plainly balderdash.

If you don't read it as this 'debate' has unfolded then you are plainly simple.

I am not playing your game. Go to bed Gusset.

As per previous, I am not playing your game.

Go to bed Gusset. You have a stressful day tomorrow teaching five year olds how to finger paint.

It is a fact that some people will manipulate the desperate for their own ends.

How would a people smuggler sell his services? By telling he truth that capsizing and drowning or being shot at by the Italian Navy is a possible outcome or by saying that all their dreams will come true in Europe?

Yes, I don't suppose it's a world away from war propoganda of old, where it was sold as some kind of 'see the world' adventure. Let's hope that efforts can be made to educate.

They should be given sanctuary in the nearest safe country. Through Italy, through Spain, through Eastern Europe, through Germany, through France, Through Belgium then safely into the UK

Germany accepts more than four times as many refugees as Britain.

Do the trains still run on time ???

Yes, when the drivers aren't on strike.

Infrastructure is still fine, but the refugees are causing tension with the locals.

Sounds like the other way round to me.

Maybe I phrased that clumsily. I don't think asylum seekers are in any way to blame for tensions.

However importing refugees for reasons of conscience is one thing. Dealing with the inevitable consequences is another.
