I can trace my ancestry back to the Vikings.

I have a disease of the hands called Dupuytren's contracture.... known as the Viking's disease!

How long do you actually go back for these 'state' apologies ??

Should we as a nation be parading outside every Scandinavian embassy demanding apologies for the Vikings murdering, raping and pillaging, taking slaves, burning monasteries and giving us the city of Newcastle and its whingeing inhabitants ???

If so - I am soooooo there...

Recent studies indicate that not much of this actually went on on account of the Vikings tended to take their families with them......a tit-bit remembered from a recent documentary although i can remember not which one....

Apologising might be the wrong turn of phrase, its a bit late in the day to apologise, given everyones dead who was involved. But then maybe accepting that the systematic relocation of Undesirables to concentration camps, and then death camps, with a good deal of murder, rape and robbery on the side, is a genocide.

Some of the kings of England were Vikings!

Which kind of circles back does it not ?

We dont need Blair to apologise for slavery in the same way we wouldn't expect the current generation of Germans to apologise for the holocaust as those generations bear absolutely no responsibility for the aberrations of the past do they ??

Quite correct. But surely in the case of Turkey its not about apologising, its about recognising it happened. Pretty sure the Germans even have laws covering Holocaust denial.

Which I guess begs the question what purpose does recognition serve ? Not arguing against the human race taking a bit of a reflective time out to understand what a thoroughly nasty entity we have been and still are too each other but...

"Oops sorry about the whole genocide thing chaps..was like that when I got here"

What actual tangible purpose does it serve ?

Apologising for something 100 years ago, under a far different regime.

Ridiculous.

Weren't some important people in Turkey commemorating something else that happened a hundred years ago? Ridiculous?

The same event. Funnily enough.

Which Armenia then said they did to deflect attention from the events in Armenia.

Optimistic as ever

I have many Armenian friends and the massacre of 1915 has never been forgotten. This is one story.

I think it's about time the tunisians apologised for raiding our west country coastlines, capturing hundreds of thousands of Britons & selling them into the slave trade.
