I saw this little gem at the weekend.

Goldsmiths Welfare and Diversity Officer asked white people and men not to attend and anti-racism meeting with the wonderful....

"If you've been invited and you're a man and/or white PLEASE DON'T COME just cos I invited a bunch of people and hope you will be responsible enough to respect this is a BME Women and non-binary event only."

[Link]

Serious question - where do they get people like Bahar Mustafa from and how the f*** do they (those who are in the ever evolving 'diversity industry' function and are even allowed to ?

....and yes I would although being both white and male may limit my chances somewhat - perhaps I should declare my self 'non-binary'

Polish Men are a significant minority in the local 'hood. Not even holders of a UK passport. Not welcome at this diversity event ? What about heterosexual pretty polish women ?

A mate of mine is a radical feminist and into all the trans- BME people of colour stuff. I got into a debate on Facebook with a few of her "mates".

One guy was ok, but the rest were a scary bunch. I posted something which didn't conform to their accepted world view and it got pretty nasty, pretty quickly (ironic, given how they consider themselves the height of tolerance).

It was along the same lines as this story. Ie, there was a flat-share in Berlin where if you wanted to invite a white person you had to inform the other flatmates in advance. I said this was racist. They said only "people of colour" are able to determine what is racist. Anything I, as part of the white male patriarchy, might say, is per se devoid of meaning.

Which to any normal thinking person is bonkers fascist brainwashing guff of the type we thought we had got rid of in 1945. But to these people, immersed in their twitter feeds and subject to the rule of the electronic mob, it's progressive and enlightened.

My personal fave phrase of the moment is the 'non-binary' one to describe someone who doesn't want to be pigeonholed as either overtly male or female - truly outstanding...and I whole heartedly doff my cap to its originator.

I agree JE - You tend find that those who are supposedly uber tolerant generally speaking are anything but the sort.

don't you love 'positive discrimination' ie. a white bloke doesn't get a job he is well qualified for cos he is a white bloke.

and you end up sacking Alan Pardew and hiring Harriet Harman to run your football team.

There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary. Those that do and those that don't.

There's someone on the LGBT committee in the NUT who refuses to talk to men, gay men or transexuals. We joke she should form her own L group.

I've known a few of these types and they really hold back progress, because they inevitably are devoted to rhetorical arguments and dogma, rather than actually having any interest in the reality of the subject.

Diversity can only be achieved by the participation of individuals opposed to segregation and discrimination, by furthering that discrimination, you just end up polarizing the debate, and alienating the people who actually will make the difference.

Radical Feminists set womens right movements back through alienation of men who were otherwise sympathetic to a cause.

Ultimately this sort of thing is clearly bonkers but as long as no one on here jumps to defend it I'm probably not going to lose any more faith in humanity.

Doesn't work quite like that, its if there is an choice between two equally qualified candidates, then the default position of Positive Action is that the other person gets it.

Because statistically speaking, in that situation,
without affirmative action, the white guy gets it. Plenty of research on this demonstrates discrimination in employment towards minority groups, and that ultimately being white is viewed, unconsciously, as a qualification.

Its amazing how much difference just putting a 'white middle class' sounding name on a Application makes.
