But you are discriminating and not offering a valid reason as to why you have formed this opinion. . and are unwilling to show your true colours. Its not your business or concern to promote a religion and that is acceptable but to be hopeful that others are not able to find a place to practice their faith is ridiculous as it really would not affect you. White people are Muslims and so is Ali one of the most famous sportsman on this planet.

Explain to me how not liking or not wanting to facilitate an archaic religion (that has in it's followers groups of people who promote FGM, treat women as second class citizens, and if it had its way wouldnt allow young girls to be educated) is racist.

Idiot.

Female Genital Mutilation isn't exclusively limited to Islam, or religion, its more of a cultural thing. There are plenty of Christian ethnic groups that practice FGM.

Christianity isn't exactly free on those issues, plenty of the Christian Right treat women as second class citizens and if given the chance would regard the education of women as a questionable practice.

When you step out of the Western Secular nation, then the primacy of religion in dominating women isn't just limited to Islam (Ultra Othodox Judaism and plenty of Christian Groups and Countries have made women second class citizens).

Never really understood that distinction.

It's like saying prohibition of homosexuality is a legal matter.

Depends what underlying values said law or culture is based on.

The niqab is another example of something separate from religion when you point out the negatives, until you try to ban it when wearing it becomes your religious right.

We all know you have no specific right to do anything on purely cultural grounds. I think Ali G summed it up when he implied he should be allowed to smoke a spliff because he is a Rasta.

For our information, could you please list the 'plenty' of Christian groups that practice FGM.

Googled it and apparently is practised by Christians in Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya. Hope that helps

What if it became a front office for Neo-Nazi's?

I'm just wondering what the reaction would be if another group of people who hated Jews moved in?

A little bit of research might help. The sect opening the mosque is Ahmadiyya perhaps the most inclusive and peaceful sect around. They don't believe in violence of any type and the only violent jihad they teach is self defence. They teach Jihad by the pen and are persecuted by far more extreme sects in other less developed countries.

To say that they are going to be teaching violence or promoting FGM shows ignorance and bigotry. They have transformed areas where they have invested in for the better.

As for FGM it is as much a Christian problem as Muslim because it exists in undeveloped countries regardless of religion.

'Archbishop Cranmer' on this:

You wrongly equate FGM in Islam with Christianity. You state:

"Some communities from parts of Africa and the Middle East, from both Muslim and Christian traditions, believe it is a necessary part of becoming a woman, that it reduces female sex drive and therefore the chances of sex outside marriage."

One can always find some outlying cultic theological belief or cultural practice to corroborate a particular bias, but this article completely fails to distinguish between Islam - in which FGM is widespread across both Sunni and Shia traditions - and Christianity, in which absolutely no mainstream church or denomination would support such barbarism. You fail to specify that some Islamic theologians claim to find support for the practice in the Qur'an ('sunna' circumcision), but no Christian theologian claims biblical provenance. You equate 'Muslim cultures' with 'Christian cultures' in Africa and the Middle East, but fail to mention the number of adherents, or how widespread their influence. If FGM is practised by any Christian communities, it is undoubtedly obscure and heretical. That is plainly not the case within Islam, which alone in the West is advocating the practice. Your article is misleading and biased in its presentation of Christianity.

This was part of a complaint he made to the BBC who, of course, were trying to play down this appalling aspect of Islam.

Christians in Somalia, Sudan etc.

FGM isn't something that really is a product of faith, but from a tribal cultural tradition. Consequently, if you look at say the Kono people, you'll find that FGM is practiced by both Muslim and Christian adherents (in Serria Leone).

That's not to say its acceptable, but that its not a Muslim or Christian practice, but cultural. In Ethiopia as well, for example, Protestants and Catholics practice FGM.

The practice of FGM predates the arrival of Islam and Christianity in most African countries, and is likely as not tied to much older customs and beliefs. Religion doesn't form culture, it informs it and becomes part of it and older beliefs tend to be absorbed into the newer faiths.

FGM is practiced by Christians, Muslims and Anamists in Ethiopia (although its more prevalent among Muslims, its still very common practice among Protestant and Catholics in that country).

Female Genital Mutilation isn't exclusively limited to Islam, or religion, its more of a cultural thing. There are plenty of Christian ethnic groups that practice FGM.

I was referring specifically to religions in the UK, last time I looked The Arch bishop of Canterbury wasnt involved in hacking a young girls v***** to bits.

Where as the practice of FGM IS carried out by muslim familys, who import doctors to carry out the sugery as it is illegal in the UK

Christianity isn't exactly free on those issues, plenty of the Christian Right treat women as second class citizens and if given the chance would regard the education of women as a questionable practice.

Again I was talking about the UK. Again to my knowledge no christians in the UK would stone to death or beat a child for being educated, nor would they want to, where as some of the sharia nutters in the UK want to be able to do exactly that, nor would they be made to marry someone they have never clapped eyes on, and yet this is common among the Islamic community.

When you step out of the Western Secular nation, then the primacy of religion in dominating women isn't just limited to Islam (Ultra Othodox Judaism and plenty of Christian Groups and Countries have made women second class citizens).

I wasn't talking about other backward nations, I was talking about the way Islam in Britain is percieved, and carried out by some people in Britain.

We in this country are by and large a forward thinking bunch with racism (ironically) being now more the premise of the angsty enthnic youth. Any trip down West Croydon and Fort neeth will prove my point.

And just to sort of quantify what I am saying, on the one hand the Christians have the Vicar of Dibley, the Muslims have Abu Hamzar Al-Masri.

See my point ?
