I've often wondered this, in fact I've just googled it out of curiosity. I always wondered how much those guys get who stand outside a construction site with nothing more than one of those signs which is Red on one side and STOP & Green on the other side and says GO.
It's $51-000 a Year ( and that's LOW end) It is often more!!!!!!!!

Many years ago I worked at a Southdown Bus garage on the south coast. It was the central servicing garage for the area. My title was Timekeeper.

My hours were 7:30am till 5:30pm. Basically I sat in a little office at the entrance to the garage, and, as and when the occasional bus arrived or departed, I had to press a button to open and close the garage door.In the summer the door was often kept open so even that function was denied to me.

My only other task was to greet sales people, which wasn't very often, and phone through to the person they had come to visit.

And that was about it. I did it for 6 months and never before, nor since, have a I read so many books.

PS before any of you idle blighters think about checking to see if a similar job is going the garage has long since gone.

At least they actually do something.

Traffic marshall at the taxi rank outside Lewisham station. The bloke literally stands there (and there is one there 24 hours a day) to stop anything going up there except taxis and disabled passengers.

What's wrong with a sign?

After playing as a substitute against Ipswich Town on Boxing Day in 2000,[11] Bogarde only made one more appearance for Chelsea's main squad before his contract expired in July 2004; it was also made from the bench, against Gillingham for the season's League Cup on 6 November 2002.[12]

1 appearance in 4 years...40K a week
