Hope he pulls through. Always such a character. His playing days were before my time sadly. Anyone remember seeing him at Selhurst?

Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial

Echo your thoughts Catfish. Just seen on the news a report saying it will be a long road to recovery, which is hopefully, promising.
Remember seeing him at Selhurst in the FA Cup 4th round replay in 1970 which resulted in a rare win for us against a London club. Such a shame he didn't get chosen for the '66 World Cup Final team, having done so much for England, but as they say, the rest is history.

Only once in his latter days for West Ham - 70/71 season I think.
Remember being surprised how much grass he covered.

He was first choice striker for England, but got injured in the group stage matches in 1966. He got his World Cup winners medal a few years back, When FIFA changed their policy to include all squad members of winning teams, not just those that played in the final.

Hoping for a speedy and full recovery.

I know Jimmy Greaves gave up booze whilst in his 20's. A doctor told him he was drinking so much, the next drink could kill him. So he never touched a drop again.
I recall he called George Best a brave man for continuing drinking, because jimmy's chat with the doctor scared the hell out of him.

I do remember Bill Nicholson, the Tottenham manager at the time, dropping several of his established stars, Greavsie, Gilzean, Perryman to name but a few, for their next game, as he was so disappointed at this shock defeat by Palace. What I didn't realise was that game was Jimmy Greaves' last in a Tottenham shirt, as 2 months later he went to W.Ham in a part-ex deal with Martin Peters.

I alawys had a lot of admiration for Jimmy and I enjoyed watching him play. On the day my daughter was born England beat Scotland at Wembley 9 - 3 and Jimmy got five of them. Just hope he makes it and I wish him all the very best!.

Yes,remember going to that, midweek game.Match of the Day (I think) even showed them turning out for Spurs reserves the following week because dropping them was a really big deal.

But at his peak he was simply amazing (even allowing for how over-used that term is now),one of the best poachers (and penalty takers) around, certainly in the past 50 years or so.

Hope he pulls through.
