Dave & Co. seem to be the most unpopular government since the Thatcher days.

Yet Labour failed to take advantage of that. Shows how poor their Leadership choices are / were.

Not really. Mostly it shows that people didn't want to hand over the keys to their safety deposit boxes to the Jocks.

What about his stupid policies like capping fuel prices when they were really high? Even though he was the energy secretary who brought in all the green policies?

What about the Mansion tax? Total Crap

He also wanted to cap rents which would never work

He was clueless and out of touch

Personality politics in full flow. Let's vote for someone based on how sexy or otherwise they look eating a bacon sandwich. Maybe we should have a lovely legs contest instead of voting on policy.

The trouble is it wasn't just the bacon sandwich. For however many years leading up to the election he came across as a bumbling fool. Some of that undoubtedly down to the press but he was lurched from one disaster to another. He actually did quite well during the debates but then this last week he started to sound a bit too desperate, talking in soundbites.

He even tripped up leaving the stage, if that had been the only gaff it could have been laughed off but he hardly came across as someone who could command respect. I would imagine Larry Grayson would have scared Putin / IS more than Ed.

Then there was the casual dismissal of the IFS and absolving the last Labour administration from any responsibility.

They had to push Milliband forward as Balls had to be kept out of the spotlight.

I suppose that's true. There's being a politician who doesn't quite fit the image, a 'rough diamond', and then just being a bit of a klutz, albeit a well meaning one.

Capping rents not a bad idea if you consider that housing benefit goes straight into the pockets of landlords who hike rents, rather than to a local authority who would be able to charge cheaper rents and also keeping it under our ownership.

I really hope labour have some balls and lurch leftwards. Mark my words the tories haven't even started cutting yet, by the time the next election comes around...

Haha, that was a bit cringeworthy.

Shades of foot. Had they picked a presentable electable leader rather than the mop on a stick, things would have been very different. As it happened the Tories used foot to wash the floor. The unions need to balance the need for a yes man and the need for power.

Surely they moved to the left this time and look where it got them. They didn't win in the 90'sh by 'lurching' to the left. If you not noticed the English have no great love of socialism.

Milliband was so far removed from working people and so arrogant with his "there will be no vote on Europe " speech he lost support in a lot of places.
Also the cover ups in Rotherham etc. did not help, unwilling to accept immigration levels were too high.
Simply out of touch.

David Milliband

Miliband distanced himself from "New Labour" and took the party to the 'Left' but you cannot win elections in the UK from the 'Left'. Miliband didn't come across as a credible leader and at the end of the day the voters never trusted Labour to deliver especially on the economy.
