While I agree they ARE just kids, I wouldn't really want them in this country spreading their perverse views to other impressionable youngsters (and entirely possible they are being sent back by ISIS as part of some grander plan) Glad it's not my decision!

Given they are 17, I very much doubt they really had much of an idea, and it seems likely that they've probably come to their senses having found themselves caught up in something very terrible.

That's not to say that they aren't criminal or that their actions on return need to be investigated, but that they won't be the first teenagers in history to have made a very stupid mistake. They probably need to pay for that mistake, but in doing so we should not pass down arbitrary moral judgments like some kind of Fundamentalist Psuedo-Islamic Death Cult. Especially against our own nations children.

I suspect that if they're genuine, the whole fleeing IS probably suggests that maybe they're done with the rhetoric of nihilistic desh terrorists - And that maybe a community service order of a lecturer tour of british schools and media with a Q+A session probably would serve society better.

All schools (most Muslims don't attend specialist Islamic schools and there are a lot less Islamic schools than I thought - and many of them aren't Sunni).

I'm for real, I joined the army at 16, yes 16, I knew just exactly what I was doing. The conflict in Aden was in full swing at the time, I could have been in that a year later at 17. Didn't get posted out there at that time but I could have been it was the luck of the draw., if I was young enough to sign up for 6 years at the age of 16 ............it was their choice no sympathy from me.

I don't see what that has to do with anything.

Sometimes some people get so caught up in the propaganda machine they don't realise the life they are giving up.

I know for a fact I made many stupid decisions in my late teens that I regret and there also some decisions I made that I don't regret. Doesn't make me perfect and doesn't mean I can use myself a moral yardstick either.

They're kids, that's all there is too it.

I'm not sure they deserve sympathy per se, but that more than the idea of punishing two stupid girls to the full extent of the law for the sake of being morally righteous, is the kind of thing that IS does.

I wouldn't say the shouldn't have to pay a price for what they have done, but similarly in doing so we shouldn't be destroying their lives either or punishing them for the actions other people.

That price should be relative to their crimes and what is best for society and their potential rehabilition. Treating them to 30 odd years of prison as a terrorist isn't benefical to anyone.
