Blair was a brilliant politician simply because he didn't seem to believe in anything in particular other than what he thought would keep him in power. It's hard to win against someone that slippery. He did do some things right, probably a lot more things than we can remember, but this is overshadowed by him being Tony Blair. I hope he was being paid on a by results basis as Middle East Envoy. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Whatever you think of him, he was very good at being a politician, would run rings around the likes of Cameron and Clegg.

Blair was a brilliant politician simply because he didn't seem to believe in anything in particular other than what he thought would keep him in power. It's hard to win against someone that slippery.

He did do some things right, probably a lot more things than we can remember, but this is overshadowed by him being Tony Blair.

I hope he was being paid on a by results basis as Middle East Envoy.

We were right to go into Afghanistan with the coalition......57 Britains died in the World Trade Centre. We stayed far too long and we suffered from mission creep. Iraq is a more tricky situation, but while the involvement hasn't benefited us it has benefited Iraq. Without regime change that country would still be ruled by either Saddam or one of his murderous sons. Thousands would still be killed each year and millions oppressed. Many mistakes were made but that it annoys me to read people's easy one sided comments. Despite most people on here probably supporting Obama having withdrawn American troops out of Iraq it's a reality that Islamic state would not have been able to expand into Iraq and take their cities had troops still been there. Islamic state would have been contained to Syria. In hindsight the American troops were moved too early from Iraq.....Basically because that was the popular option.....But it's now obvious it was also the wrong option. Whatever you want to say (and Saddam was indeed a pig) you can't necessarily say less people are dying per year in Iraq (17,000 civilians in 2014) or that people are less oppressed.Seems to me the present situation is pretty darn oppressive for millions if you live in an ISIS controlled area or are a Sunni living in an area controlled by Shia militia... Saddam was indeed a pig) you can't necessarily say less people are dying per year in Iraq (17,000 civilians in 2014) or that people are less oppressed.Seems to me the present situation is pretty darn oppressive for millions if you live in an ISIS controlled area or are a Sunni living in an area controlled by Shia militia...

The US and UK completely screwed up (separate to the question of going in in the first place) in having no thought through plan beyond regime change.
