let me see if I've got this socialism right?

Someone works like a demon all thier days and ends up with the same lot in life, as some workshy unwashed bin dipper.

I think Capitalism seems a bit fairer.

Whereas in Capitalism, being born in to the Walmart family and doing f*ck all work makes you richer than almost all of your employees who work their arse in to the ground combined.

Edited by serial thriller (28 May 2015 1.34pm)

At some point someone called Wal-Mart worked his pips off to provide for his family and by hard work and luck he made a fortune, how the family administer that fortune is not for you to decide (or to distribute among your comrades).

Much like Richard Branson, started off with one sh1t heap of a record shop, and through hard work, business savy, and persistence now has an empire, why should he just give at away to Jeremy Kyle types who make the three toes sloth look as productive as hive of bumble bee's.

Last question, why is it always middleclass types who abhor the wealthy, is it because they really think they deserve to be as rich as Branson, or Lord Sainsbury, even though the only noteworthy they ever did was drive a bus for ten years ?

Capitalism isn't perfect, but it sure is better than anything else out their.

Pull the other one, it's got bells on it.

How nice for you, must be difficult to have a cheeky one off the wrist in the bathroom if the Mrs is in, ..anyway I digress.

Please enlighten me with stories of socialist utopias the world over.....wait a minute, you can’t , there aren't any.

There aren't really any capitalist Utopias either of course, utopias are a fictional myth, their impossible to achieve, without establishing a post-scarcity economy, they'd require a technological breakthrough that rendered resources valueless (a technology such a nanotechnology or other atomic scale manipulation).

The failure of socialism has always been the idea of remaking the world and forcing the revolution, rather than seeing socialism as an end result of capitalism.

True there are no Utopias and there never will be, human nature would ensure that it did not work anyway. Like Christianity, Socialism tends to ignore human nature or thinks it can be changed - if only we all behaved in the manner proposed everything would be fine (and I speak as an adherent of Socialism in my foolish youth). Socialism in practice, at least hardcore Socialism, has failed everywhere it has been tried - major practitioners such as China have now reverted to Capitalism (without allowed their workers proper union rights etc enjoyed by most workers in democratic Capitalist states). What China has realised is that a country cannot flourish and prosper when a little group of 'leaders' lay down the rules of how people should conduct their lives, decide what they should produce, decide their health care, tax their income and dictate what their money is spent on. They need to go further, as we do too, and give people the widest freedom that is practicable to take these decisions themselves.

Of course Capitalism is not perfect, far from it. It is better and more successful than Socialism though. The USA 'poverty' figures are suspect - a percentage of people living below the average income of people in the US is hardly poverty. The Indian situation does indicate true poverty; their government should not spend money on space projects and nuclear weapons when significant numbers of their people are living like that. However, that is not the fault of Capitalism as such, it is bad government. If India was Socialist, like the USSR it would spend money on space and weapons while its people suffered. Would be interesting to see similar statistics from the likes of China and North Korea, but of course they would suppress them, like most Socialist states do.

Food banks are here too, Jimmy, and this is not a socialist enclave but an affluent borough in the 5th richest country in the world. The fact is Capitalism doesn't work for most of the human population and even in the richest countries in the world some working people need charity to eat.

China has nearly 20% of the world's population, do you think Socialism worked for them when the People's Republic was a full blown Socialist economy? They are a lot better off now under their New Socialism (ie: a Capitalist economy), although they are are still held back and suppressed by the retention of the usual authoritarian aspects of 'Socialism'.

Christ... how many edits before you got that post right?

My belief is that a lot of visitors to food banks spend their money on luxuries before turning up to collect free grub.
