I hope there's options to buy, first refusal etc built into the deal, otherwise it's a bit of a waste of a loan slot.

So if Bamford is a waste of a loan spot who would you suggest that we did take on loan?

Actually I agree with the "waste of a loan spot" suggestion in general in relation to the parameters which are set out within the loan. [Delighted with this signing]. If a loan is set up cleverly with the option to buy then it is a "purposeful" loan rather than just another squad number. Also the player is aware of the potential "temp to perm" arrangement and they will hopefully give their all to secure a contract especially if they may recognise that their future at the parent is always a difficult one to ensure.

Bear in mind that it is another excellent shop window for Bamford and he gets his chance in the Prem. He could go anywhere after us, but hopefully what we show him of this club he will fall in love with.

Sadly, I doubt there is an option. If there is, it will be first refusal IF Chelsea want to sell. If the lad is as good as his potential suggests, they won't; if he disappoints, we will happily hand him back. In other words, if you want him playing in our colours for the 2016/2017 season, he has to be barely on the line [so not good enough for Chelsea] with obvious potential to improve [so wanted by us]. If this wholly made up scenario is correct, you would almost want him to get flu!

Back to reality, I suspect it will be a straight loan with no options and we should enjoy the lad as one of our own for the 10 months we have him.

Excellent signing for us. This kid looks the real deal and the way Chelsea's loan model works this could he could even end up being a future signing for us if this season goes well.

All this talk of him not being good enough for Chelsea is laughable, like it is a true measurement. Who was the last striker they bedded through their youth system? They have 3 world class strikers in Costa, Falcao and Remy, won the title and challenge for the Champions League. He could be Ronaldo, Rooney or Messi at the same age and wouldn't get a look in there.

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye!

Agreed ST, but PB has a choice too if he feels he may not break through fast enough at Chelsea. It seems we are fast becoming more attractive prospect. I have to go, I've got straw all over my hands.

Will people be happy though, if a loan signing means the likes of Gayle or Murray are moved on?

Just when I thought that I was out...........they pull me back in

Spot on. Unfortunately this is the nature of the beast. However it all depends what potential this lad has. Lukaku was out on loan for a number of seasons then sold, albeit for a large fee. As others have mentioned this is a great opportunity for him. First showing in the EPL, Championship player of the season. If his head is screwed on properly both him and the club could benefit in the short term, possibly long. Don't agree that this is a waste of a loan spot. Surely an improvement on Sanogo from last season ?

Gayle yes because we could get a nice fee for him, murray we wouldnt get much and offers far far more experience than gayle or bamford so is unlikely to be moved on.

People say what is it that bamford offers that gayle doesnt. First of all, he is 6ft1, looks handy with his head and played the lone striker role well for boro - something gayle has never done well at palace. Secondly, in their respective careers bamford has scored more in less games than gayle. It remains to be seen whether he will cut it in the prem or if he is as good at finishing as gayle but imo it is worth trying because Gayle can not play up front on his own and it would be ridiculous to change our winning formula of tight midfield and pacy wingers to just suit one fairly eratic player

Unless there is already a fee agreed at the end of the loan, which i very much doubt then it's unlikely that we would buy him. If he has a brilliant season and looks the real deal and still Chelsea want rid then i think bigger fish than us will be sniffing about and he would command a huge fee. Lukaku after a couple of successful loan spells was sold for 28m

Murray,Gayle and Bamford as strikers I would be happy with that. We have no chance with Remy and the idea of Pato coming to little ole Crystal Palace is just Quackers!

Is that a 'duck' joke?

Hopefully Bamford does so well for us that they want him in the first team next season and they can then sell us Remy.

Apparently Bamford turned down the chance to go to Harvard and is privately educated so sounds like a very bright lad.
