This is the first rumour that actually makes sense. Why does signing Phillips mean you don't want Austin? Do you have a QPR quota in mind?

I think we need his sort of quality player. We need a third quality speedy winger as we have little cover for injuries and also to alternate with Bolasie and Zaha and Phillips will fill that role. The papers also have us linked with a loan for Januzaj and if Phillips bid fails maybe that is another option.

We have a couple of young prospects but i think it is likely they will go out on loan in championship.

Puncheon and Lee are different types of wingers who are equally good playing off the main striker and Bolassie plays that role for Congo.

I think that last season Pardew showed he wants to change the shape and depth of the team. He also showed that he will mould his style around the players who perform for him.

Players that we are linked with show the sort of ambition we now have. Obviously not all these rumours will happen but if AP thinks an available player is an improvement on current so I think that some current favorites may be allowed to leave.

Personally I think we need a quality centre half, a left back, a creative central midfield player, a speedy winger who can cross and 2 strikers
