I work for openreach (puts tin hat on) the broadband speeds vary depending on a lot of factors. Speed test and other sites like it will also vary results as the servers they use, distance from you etc will give mixed results and not a true factor to your actual speed. Living within a mile of your cabinet should get you decent speeds. Virgin is a seperate network though.

As for me, I'm currently utility warehouse (soon to be BT) getting 60-70 download and 18-20 up. Should be exactly the same once I switch.

As my original post said, 2 years ago I was getting 0.75 mbps - now 0.15. Millions have been spent in Cornwall. My house hasn't moved and no new houses have been built. Do I live on the coast or in a remote village - no. 500 yards from fibre that could be extended in already existing ducts under the road.
Openreach are s***. Matter is with MP.

Does anyone think signing Cabaye would be a good idea?

Not until we know his broadband speed is acceptable Eustace.

Virgin

Paying for 152mb, getting 160.29 down, 12.02 up and a ping of 7ms

Very happy with that!

As a matter of interest, are you on a fibre package or just standard broadband? Also, does the cabinet you talk about have fibre enablement? I'm only an engineer so I'm interested to know.

Now this is a first world problem.

You should try the internet here in South Africa, I call it narrowband.

Great thread because up until now I had listening to people describe their dreams as the most tedious thing in the world.

7ish. Which is acceptable and is the estimate for my sh1t connection to be fair.

What I will complain about though is the fact that they can't hook the fcuking cabinet up with fibre. BT say they work with the council to ensure they don't dig unnecessary holes, instead waiting for one in the right place to lay the cable. Well there are about a thousand trenches in Lewisham right now so one must be suitable.
