But is Bamford any better than Murray or Gayle? If he has come in to give them competition, great, if to replace, strange as Murray and Gayle have proved their worth in the premier league, something Bamford hasn't. You can't say Bamford is an upgrade on what we already have, and that's what people were expecting.

But I will contradict myself and say he is an upgrade on sanago and Ameobi, maybe the superstar striker is still to come in?

SP recently said we are going for 3 more signings after Cabaya .With 2 tomorrow think the 3rd will be a centre half, not another forward.

Reckon something will happen at the death of the transfer window in late Aug. This is Palace after all, altho we could be shipping out more than shipping in. Agree about centre half, but if we possibly get Bamford and a new goalie in McCarthy then still would like a proven EPL striker if possible. Just have to wait and see.

You never know for sure but he looks a thousand times better than Gayle simply because he's a footballer who scores a lot of goals rather than just a goalscorer. At Championship level, Bamford absolutely had it all...everything you could want in a forward. Gayle, who did well at the same level, was a poacher who offered little else. In this day and age, that seems no longer to be enough.

With regard to Murray, the comparison is less obvious but I would say that Bamford has a much higher ceiling. The thing with Murray is that even if he doesn't start, he is a fantastic player to have off the bench because he offers so much in many different ways. He can play more than one type of forward role. I would think Bamford's arrival signals the departure of Gayle but not of Murray. Of course, I may be wrong.

Possibly we were looking at buying a striker at that was Remi. After his decision to stay we got offered Bamford on loan. Why not he is a definite upgrade on Sanogo. The McCarthy deal cost us nothing as we are just swapping him for Hennessy really as he looks like he is off. I can see us still purchasing a striker as I can see either one of Gayle or Murray going a CB and if a chance winger came up then maybe. We still have another loan slot available also.

Also we have to think that if we are going to play Murray as our main striker then who will take his place if injured. We need to buy another striker definitely.

Harry Kane was ONLY a Championship player (and not as prolific as Bamford has been) until last year when he suddenly found his feet and confidence.

Bamford has to be a useful addition to the squad surely?

Far prefer the try before you buy approach to a buy and cross your fingers approach myself.

Would had preferred it to be a permanent deal, but maybe chelsea wanted silly money(£8/10m).This way we still have that amount to spend on one more big money player.I think i would prefer that to be on a big money defender,(Ashley Williams would be stupendous).

Come on mate you don't honestly think this is a "try before you buy deal" do you? Chelsea aren't prepared to offload Remy so what makes you think if Bamford turns out to be amazing for us they're then gonna let us keep him.

This is lose lose for us IMO. And I'm not one of the ones who thinks the kid doesn't have immense potential, it just doesnt make sense as a loan at all.

....unless this is a stop gap for a potential signing in January/next summer. (Charlie Austin will be out of contract if not sold by QPR). Just speculating.

Yes i think are original targets were unavailable for whatever reason,so in my opinion its a good move as it gives us more options as long as we keep Murray and Gayle. They will hopefully score enough to keep us safe then look again for the big money signing, but who is to say more spent on a striker grantees goals .

I'd assume that's very unlikely given the fact that Parish or Pardew cant see into the future. I think the only positive we could take from this deal is if the kid turns out to be the reason we finish in the top 8 which then allows us to attract even higher calibre players next year. I still just think it doesn't make sense, either way we will be left disappointed at some stage.

I think you have the most accurate take on this.

This deal is far better for Chelsea than anybody else.....However, considering the fact that Chelsea had other suitors for Bamford it could be said that we won the race for the B-side of the deal.

It isn't the most exciting signing because it's a one season deal....If the lad does well we won't see him again. It's all Chelsea.

I can't get too 'up' over loans.....I'm more interested in getting QPR's goalie.
