The reason that everyone wants to come here is that they know we have a generous benefits system, lax borders that you could drive a bulldozer through un-noticed and soft politicians who are scared of their own shadow and are petrified of being branded racist. Some people are so ashamed of our illustrious past that they denounce everything that is great about Britain and are hell bent on changing the social make up of this country. These politicians are usually the left leaning kind.
They should remember that this country has done some great things, we won battles that we probably shouldn't have, we punched well above our weight. We had great inventors, scientists and engineers, but just because the left is ashamed to be British we have this ludicrous situation where we can't control who's coming in. Blair and Brown should be shot for deliberate dereliction of duty the way they abandoned the borders of this country. The damage is now irreversible.

So,Brown and Blair "abandoned the borders of this country" with the result that "we cant control who's coming in".,did they?

Do you have any idea what you are talking about beyond blind prejudice?

If you are referring to EU freedom of movement, the roots of E European EU immigration lie in Margaret Thatcher's speech in Bruges as PM in 1988 and the Maastrict Treaty under Major's watch.

As Tory MEP Roger Helmer put it in 2002 (well after Blair came to power):

"We are in favour of it (the EU enlargement) , for three reasons. First, we owe a moral debt to the countries of central and eastern Europe, which were allowed to fall under the pall of communism after the second world war. Second, by entrenching democracy and the rule of law in eastern Europe, we ensure stability and security for the future. Third, an extra hundred million people in our single market may be a short-term liability, but long term will contribute to growth and prosperity."

If you are talking about granting asylum to refugees, the rights are based on a UN Convention signed in 1951,not as one might think from reading your opinions,1997-2010.

If you are talking about neither, but non-EU economic migrants, that's a situation spanning well beyond the UK at the present time, with other countries taking a heavier brunt, and about as closely linked to Blair/Brown,as your expressed views are to the objective.

Under the (non Labour) Coalition's spending review, the UK Border Agency was required to implement cuts of 23%.

The current situation in Calais results somewhat more from events in France, events within the wider EU,and events further afield, rather than from lack of border controls by the UK,whether under the last Labour government or otherwise.

Most of your post make me laugh - but this takes the biscuit.

Glad the Tory MEP gave you reason to laugh.

For an even bigger laugh,he's now UKIP's Head of Delegation to the European Parliament! A politician of unswerving principles...

Firstly I am not rich by any means, secondly what on earth has my wealth or not got to do with the heartless and bigoted attitudes on here, 3rd I can only think that you are choosing to cite a once heard scripture, with as is usual, zero understanding of what it ACTUALLY means. I wouldn't feel too bad about that, its what most people do, but I will happily school you.

The verse you have loosely referenced, was said by Jesus to illustrate that if you put wealth above the Kingdom of God then you can not be saved. It does not in reality mean that you can not acquire wealth, as long as you do good with it.

Anyway, back to topic.............

Edited by reborn (27 Jul 2015 12.38pm)

No, that's your interpretation of the verse.....My interpretation of it is as likely to be as valid as yours. There is nothing in the New Testament that backs up your interpretation at all.

Your interpretation gives an excuse for materialism. It's the same interpretation Republicans use. There are other interpretations....There are other verses where Jesus indicates he isn't fond of wealth. 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me' (Matthew 19:21)

Also don't be so arrogant as to presume upon my knowledge of the Bible. Just because I reject its fairy tales now doesn't mean I wasn't brought up with them.

LOL there is so much wrong with your post, But some battles simply don't merit fighting, I'll leave you to your bile-fest.

God bless.

PS You brought religion into this, but what we are talking about is a massive humanity deficit, nothing to do with religion. Just being compassionate.

PPS Your knowledge of the bible is about as shallow as your compassion.

I don't think that's fair on several levels.

Firstly changing your mind isn't wrong.

Secondly Thatcher and most in the Tory party regard the 1992 agreement as a giant mistake.

I've now read several posts where you refer to the fact that Thatcher and the Tory party started this ball rolling.....You point it out....Well, as I read it..... you point it out as though being anti this EU is somehow hypocritical for Tories.

It doesn't stand up.

Read Thatcher's diaries to get a proper handle on what happened instead of bring up this lame point everytime....It was her biggest regret and mistake.

Being anti this version of the EU is most definitely not in any way inconsistent with Tory belief systems.

I meant one example of post colonial failure.

What about some other examples, or are you just going to use Zimambwe as justification for your seeming desire to be like what we was in the old days with our empire and what not.

I let that right wing firebrand, Peter Tatchell, answer: "Expose Mugabe as a liberation hero turned blood-thirsty tyrant. Allow the whole world to hear about this crimes and see what a monster he has become - Ian Smith with a black face, only many times worse."

That doesn't answer the question.

More like it doesn't answer the question the way you want it answered.

I know what I'm talking about thanks and I can't see what part of it is blind prejudice-I suppose you say that rubbish as you don't agree, well I would ask you where you have been since 1997? Obviously not on this planet that's for sure as you evidently can't see what is going on or you choose not to because it's inconvenient for you.
And we don't "owe a moral debt" to anyone, what utter tripe.

ps.Re-read my post? I was not personally arguing the "moral debt" line at all, but rather using a Tory MEP's quote to counter an argument that Blair and Brown (your blame all woes upon duo)as opposed to the Tories were essentially responsible for UK support for EU expansion eastwards.

Do you right-wingers understand what Maggie began and Major finished when signing you up to the Maastricht Treaty? You don't seem to or if you do you don't seem able to be honest about it with yourselves and are in a heap load of denial.
