Well I'm on a ferry to Calais now. Some posters will be pleased to know that plenty of pesky foreigners have left the country.

I hope the border police will be checking your boot on the way back.

Cultural diversity in the UK is diverse within ethnicities, as between them.

Sorry Jamie but that is fundamentally inaccurate.

A massive divide is between alligence to a nationality and historical background.

This is a bit different to the fact that your neighour may be a bit of a prick. If this country had to conscript again for a war your neighbour is getting called up like you are (Mmmmm). Economic migrants aren't.

I know that state alligence isn't big for you but it is a major deal for many others......Including those from external cultural communities themselves.

Another silly posh tart

The article acknowledges that some of them are looking to work but it also mentions that they don't like France, failing to add any detail.

She also goes on to argue on Facebook with a Brit (I spotted this on there via a friend who I imagine was sharing to highlight her efforts) who points out that he'd found lots of opportunities in France and that it was safe place for migrants again without any detailed objection.

Not sure you understood his point.I think his point (he'll no doubt correct me if I'm wrong) was simply that there can be and are significant cultural differences within an wider "ethnic group" in the UK.Take "former Yugoslavs";certainly the case there.Take WASPS in the UK.Significant cultural differences between say the "upper classes" and "working class culture".Same might apply say to people who came here from different parts of the Carribbean.

Australia.. is now experiencing the usual problems of mass immigration of people of different race, religion, language and culture.

Nail on head.....I was just too lazy and busy today to go through the counter argument.

Interesting Stirling. Why is it "nail on head" to suggest Australia has not generally been a stunning example of successful migration of people from all over the world, under a policy of multiculturalism,ie 2006 census (top nine foreign born groups other than those born in UK or New Zealand),206,000 born in China,199,000 born in Italy,159,000 Vietnam, 147,000 India,120,000 Philippines,109,000 Greece,106,00 Germany.

"stunning example of successful migration" - struth mate:

Yes,it is indeed most unfortunate that any country should contain amongst its inhabitants such people as those who support "Reclaim" in Australia.See the link.

But you just told us it was a stunning example of a multi-cultural paradise.

I said multi culturalism has generally been very successful and beneficial to the country in a way that might be described as stunning.

Alas, like any country, that does not preclude it having some jerks living there.

Legal thinks that if you're not fond of multiculturalism that it's doubtful that you should be in favour of curry.

One of the more amusing points made in the argument around multiculturalism.

It's a fair point. We should be putting our own herbs and vegetables first before other culinary incomers.

But even then, you can never be too careful about resisting the insidious advance of "foreign" foodstuffs.Even what some might think of as a quintessential "British" vegetable like the carrot is thought to have originated in Persia/Asia Minor and only came here as an immigrant in the middle ages.no doubt gaining acceptance in a misguided attempt at middle ages multi-culturalism.

The modern orange carrot originated in the Netherlands in the 17th century. The Eastern variety was purple and was inferior to the orange carrots which were sweeter and more fleshy than their purple counterparts, thus providing more food per plant and being better tasting.

Interesting, since the ones grown here from the 15th century onwards. were red and white coloured.Orange hybrids were thought have have been developed in Europe from the 16th century. You are right that the orange "carrot" hybrid on which our cultivated carrots are based today were developed by Dutch horticulturalists in the 18th century.

A truly multi-cultural vegetable, originating anywhere but within the Uk.

This reminds me of that meme doing the rounds on Facebook, along the lines of "Drives a German car, eats Indian food, drinks Italian coffee but hates foreigners"

I don't know who's more stupid. The fictional racist portrayed or the sort of people who share such rubbish in the belief that it's actually relevant to anything.

Or perhaps a third option for the most stupid? Those who are so blind they can't see the wood from the trees and say in relation to a discussion about benefits/negatives of multi culturalism, things like that the benefits of living in a more multi-cultural society as shown by our cuisine, such as "indian" food becoming one of our "national dishes",as an example are of no relevance whatsoever

Right, lowered wages, competition for jobs, housing crisis and occasional terrorism - all worth it if we can buy a Chinesse takeaway or pitza.

We invented the Tikka Masala...

Other holes in such a specious notion being anyone that indiscriminate in their dislike of foreigners is a rarity. Is anyone that stupid to not consider the external cultural influences on food? (ignoring the ridiculousness of where a car might come from)

By pointing out the ignorance of a fictional character we've agreed on a couple of additional benefits of migration but I didn't see you crying out for the enrichment that Romanian cuisine might bring.
