I have major concerns with Windows 10.

Firstly, its updates. Some updates are mandatory, including device drivers. In the pre live version, there was a way to turn this option off for at least some things, its being reported that the live version does not have this ability. So your drivers will auto update based on what MS think they should be!

Some security patches are also mandatory, like the "security patch" for windows 7 that included a little feature constantly telling you to upgrade to Windows10.

Privacy. Try reading the MS terms of agreement, they are 45 A4 pages long if you print them out.
Included in here is basically the right to gather pretty much any and all data from your computer, and send it to them, including passwords and encryption keys.

FREE? Forbes magazine reports that Windows 10 will be the last "version" of windows. After this, it will becomes just "Windows" and will turn to a subscription based operating system by 2017. You wont be paying for patches and fixes to existing features and functions, but if you want the new stuff they will be rolling out, then you have to start paying annual fees, and you can bet that some of that new stuff will be mandatory for certain other popular applications and games.

NOTE: Windows 7 support continues until 2020.

I will be sticking with Windows 7 for at least another 364 days.

Good post, i'm gonna do the same.

Nothing showing up on my Laptop for Windows 10. Is there meant to be an icon or something you press?

Probably means you have a Mac

Seriously though, you need to do all the windows updates to qualify (at least W7 SP1) and have a computer that is compatible with Windows 10.

IE or whatever there calling it now is still annoyingly crap though but all settings, progs etc were carried over.
File explorer interface is a bit messy but just have to get used to it.

All of the above....

The rule is, if something is free, you are the product.

I never used Window 8, got to use it when it came out and after a close look I stuck with Windows 7. MS are now as bad as Apple when it comes to wanting to know everything about you.

I have a PC and all it says for me is that it will notify me when it's ready to update.

Just installed it, (from W7) I would say deffo worthwhile upgrading if you have W8 or W8.1 as it doesn't have that horrible user interface.

Is it worth upgrading from Windows 8 ?

The new and 'final' version of Windows is being released today. It has been in beta testing for quite a while so hopefully most of the bugs are out.

Like many I have a free upgrade as I bought my laptop this year. I intend to wait a couple of months and then try but I have poor broadband and am wary of an upgrade failing midstream.

Any suggestions/comments ?

Some good replies here.

I haven't been given the option yet ( nothing on task bar ). I'll wait a while and bounce the query in a few months.
Tx for everybody's opinions.
