Was fuming the other week. I bought the directors cut of this, not much difference except they've added comic strip sequences to link some of the scenes together. And it totally ruins the whole film!!! It might sound a bit petty but this is a film that relys on the superb atmosphere is creates and these added bits just kill it!

I'm debating slinging it in the bin and buying the original.

You're right. Why you would mess around with the original of this is beyond me. Not sure if you've seen it but the Simpsons did a parody of it called The Winter of His Content [Link]

The Killing (Kubrick)

This!

Some cracking films in this list, especially these three. I haven't seen The Killing for about 20 years, but when I read this post it was one of the first I thought of. A cult classic.

Another one I'd add to this list is Fail Safe. I'd never heard of it until I came across it on TV very late one night and couldn't stop watching it. I saw a TV interview with George Clooney several years later in which he said it was his favourite film, and the way he described how it had made him feel when he first saw it was exactly the same way I had felt when I watched it. He later appeared in a version of the film made for TV.

Honourable mention also goes to:

North By Northwest
The Apartment
Charade
The Manchurian Candidate
The Fortune Cookie
The Odd Couple
The Sting
LA Confidential
Jackie Brown

The Fisher King is up there on my list.

As Good As It Gets is another cracking film.

Cynic or realist? It's a fine line!

Added those two to my wishlist Nice one - Not seen either

If you don't mind me taking berties, I reckon what would also look good in your list would be Barefoot in the Park, and possibly also The Goodbye Girl (which seriously needs a dvd reissue). Neil Simon was a genius!
