Don't agree on reputation. Really well regarded.

Probably has a much higher regard among employers and public than a degree, but likely held in lower regard in terms of Academic posts. That said, I know one of the professors at Reading Universities computer department initially entered into their PHD program on an OU degree.

There are universities with a higher reputation than the OU (the obvious Oxbridge Durham etc) but the rest not. Also you will gain in kudos for having completed a university degree whilst also holding down some sort of job

That is definitely true. I actually found it a lot easier studying on the OU, than at university, largely because the distractions were much lower. That said, I wouldn't necessarily say that I regretted any of those distractions either.
