Very interesting/frightening documentary on BBC2 the other day. (The above link is to iPlayer) It appears that we have a rather large collection of debris orbiting around earth - old Soviet rocket sections (the size of a railway carriage), defunct satellites and smaller pieces of damaged equipment etc. They are travelling at speeds of up to 17,500 mph! The trouble is every time they collide more debris is formed and travelling at that speed a flake of paint can be lethal. Bearing in mind we now rely on satellites for much of our daily living, this problem needs sorting out and it's not easy to do. In the short term, the space station and it's astronauts are in danger as if they are hit it could be fatal. I'm sure Ouzo Dan will have something to contribute to this thread?
