You lot don't know how fortunate you were to be born in an affluent, stable, peaceful western country do you?

I also know how fortunate people are to live in Monaco, Cannes, and Nice, Dan, but I don't turn up on their doorstep demanding a free slice of their lavish lifestyle not having contributed or worked towards it though?

Not many turn up here for a free slice of live style either. Our Asylum laws require that asylum cases are not allowed to work in the UK until they are granted the right of citizenship or temporary residence.

EU migrants need to work to be entitled to benefits (3-5 years), or be granted citizenship.

Funny enough, as a legal migrant, on an extended visa, you need to be able to demonstrate you can 'support yourself' for the period of your stay, or until you can find work (on a working visa). My wife, when she migrated to work in the UK needed to have 10k in the bank account (as well as proof she did not have HIV, TB, her educational standard and history of employment as a teacher). She worked as a TA in the UK until she qualified as a UK teacher (which she paid for). And that's despite having a degree in Maths, English, Drama and post graduate status in education, and ten years teaching experience.

Then after five years she paid for, and took her citizenship exam (and passed).

It isn't as easy as people think to get in legally.

What did you do in the army? I worked for five years in the court service, and that doesn't seem to count (despite being paid so poorly I got a pay rise when they introduced minimum wage).

The language used by both the left and those on the left in the media in relation this has been very carefully chosen to justify illegal immigration, and what is going on over there, to stop any sort of public criticism in the UK for what is being fostered on the UK by those in Calais.

Quite depressing.

The left wing's coverage on this has been quite predictable. They cry about these so called peaceful people and their right to come here, yet I see them rioting most nights, cutting down fences, threatening lorry drivers. They are marauding and the sooner something is done about it the better, but I can't see anything happening other than our weak political establishment caving in and letting them all in.

The emboldened part, are you reeferring to the left or the immigrants

Seriously, the left have only got the use of language to complain about, barrel scraping tbh.

Yeah so fortunate that I get up at 4.30am each morning and work till 7pm just to keep my head above water, taking cr@p from morons who don't know their arses from their elbows. Let's not try and make out that we all live in huge Manor houses with servants and flash cars. What infuriates me the most is these patronising celebrities telling us to give money to people less fortunate than ourselves. If they all clubbed together and gave some of their vast fortunes then they would go a long way to helping these less fortunate people. No one chooses where they are born, so lets not wave that old stick.
If we let these people in then we set a precedence, that anyone who stamps their feet and causes trouble can come here.
We have enough of our own people living in poverty, so let's sort our own out.

We have no responsibility to these people what so ever. We all have our own problems and families to feed. I will not lose a seconds sleep over these people in Calais.

I know Bristol's not exactly the Maldives but I'm not sure you've ever been forced to flee from war or famine or fear of being forcefully raped.

OK, well maybe the last one.

Very true, both my grandfathers fought in WWII, fighting to preserve our way of life, and my father was also in the army, he was in the Green Howards, and so I felt an obligation and did eight years myself in the Royal Green Jackets, so like you I feel I have served my country to a certain extent. The government doesn't give a monkeys though. This new liberal breed of politician wants to help everyone but their own.
