When people talk about Croydon, are they talking about the town centre or the Borough?

The place has many faults but it's nowhere near as bad as people make out. Has there ever been a town with a worse reputation than Croydon?

Beirut

Beirut has some stunning beaches.

As does Tunisia.

Croydon's beaches are crap.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Went back to croydon a few weeks ago and still can safely say it's a s*** ole but I can see what's going on in the efforts to slowly transform it into some trendy hub ala clapham/shoreditch and what's being tried in brixton/peckham, with the w***y transport crate idea outside east croydon and more apartments going up centrally.
I know it may be good for the new trendy explorer (although a quick detour round the corner to dingwall rd may make them think otherwise) but it's rejuvenation but not what croydon is about.

I love going back to Croydon ...and then driving straight home without stopping. Always makes me appreciate how lucky I have been to escape.

I always used to enjoy seeing cast members from "The Bill" strolling around Croydon. Alas, The Bill is no longer on TV. The Bill came off air around the same time as the demise of Croydon. Coincidence? I think not.

It all went downhill when June Ackland got promoted to sergeant.

I don't know why the people of Croydon haven't hunted her down really.

I was so proud when Mott The Hoople name-checked Croydon in "Saturday Gigs"..............

Fairfield Halls in Feb 1971. Proud to say I was in the audience.
Absoultely brilliant. Still my best ever concert.
