Perhaps we can find a disgruntled ex-employee of the Graham Norton show....

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

What's happened to the Gays?

It used to be that they would have a "hissy fit", a little cry and stamp their feet when things weren't going well.

Another example of the dichotomy that is America; it gets so much right and so much completely wrong. I swung between thinking it was the best place in the entire world for parts of any given day, and the worst in other parts. I couldn't settle there, and not for want for want of trying. Too much of it was simply alien to my view of how a society should live (that's not a criticism; just my personal reflection.)

I find it hard to articulate myself when it comes to the gun debate. You can argue interpretations of the constitution, you can argue logic and you can debate morality but the truth is that guns are just wrong but change happens when the population is motivated to demand it and for whatever reason, American's by and large are disinclined to do something about the private ownership of weapons. Yes, the NRA are scum but for all their influence, America is not a nation of puppets. As Paul Weller wryly observed, the public gets (eventually) what the public wants.

And so America goes on, lurching from gun crime to gun crime. At some point, it will stop and the NRA will lose simply because America is civilised and civilised countries get there in the end. But I doubt it will be any time soon and not without a painful and bloody fight.

Have a look at the jim jeffries comedy. He puts forward great arguments for changing gun laws in america as posted by ray (in houston)

Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

I completely agree with you. There are things here that are fantastic (lifestyle) and things here that are awful (guns, health insurance). But long before I got to the 20th anniversary of moving here (it's 21 years and counting...), I decided that I prefer this place on balance. Every Palace game live on TV may have something to do with that...

This is so true. We got there on gay rights (really, really fast in the end), we're getting there on health insurance but we're not moving forward - and maybe going backwards - on guns. The public is overwhelmingly behind no-brainer gun control efforts like universal background checks and support tails off as you go down the list like banning extended mags and assault rifles, but they still have the support of the majority.

Keep an eye on Bernie Sanders; he's the canary in the coalmine. He's an unabashed, self-identified socialist. He's also beating Hillary in the polls in the early Primary states (this is important for reasons too labyrinthine to explain here) and he's beating all the Republican candidates in hypothetical Presidential head-to-heads.

Seen this many times before - he makes the case against guns better than any politician.

The most amazing fact i learned since yesterday's horrible event is that 44% of all guns in circulation worldwide are owned by US citzens (not army, CITIZENS!). Amazing!

Even more amazing (concerning) is that the percentage of gun owners to the population is decreasing, but the number of guns is increasing. This means that, while fewer people are buying guns, those buyers are buying a LOT of them.

Add to that 44% the number of undeclared weapons and it'll be much higher.
