Keep hearing the word "Cool" and it certainly wasn't referring to the weather. Everything appears to be "Cool" these days. "Cool" this, "Cool" that, "Cool" the other ! Clearly a modern fad. Edited by Willo (27 Aug 2015 4.09pm) I heartily concur with your sentiments. I'm absolutely flabbergasted 'piffle', 'hogwash' and 'brickbats' are not in common usage among our youth.
mongs surely Not cool mate. Those of us with Downs relatives/friends find that really offensive.

The other day I heard a chap, probably around my age, use the word "Smashing" in terms of being excellent, very good etc. Don't often hear this word in such a context. When I was younger I used to hear the words "Drawing room" to describe what is now a "Lounge". Drawing room or sitting room is/was used by upper crust while lounge is/was distinctly lower class.

The other day I heard a young girl say what sounded like "Eye candy" .Is this a new modern day phrase and if so what does it refer to ? Just thought maybe there is a phrase called "I candy" ? Edited by Willo (30 Aug 2015 10.30pm)

And I understand that when girl's says a chap is "Fit", it's not referring to his physical state, instead it means the chap is attractive.

I've personally found a few of these young and trendy cats using "hogwash" as an acceptable adjective.

I still break out the word "mega" now and again to appear retro but down with the kids at the same time.
