The belief that Germany is relaxing its policy is bound to lead to a level of migration that surpasses anything seen so far. Refugees and economic migrants will be thrown together in a rush.Very many more will reach Italy and Greece and eventually it is conceivable that the front-line EU nations will stop trying to enforce the rules, and will simply wave new arrivals across their territory, tempting even more into attempting the perilous crossings. Sure Germany has offered 800,000 places to refugees at the Hungary station, but how many people are willing to board an 'immigration train' to Germany, to a centre where they'll be expected to take a shower. In another week they'll have 800,000 more places....

Cameron caves in and agrees to take 25,000 extra Syrian refugees. He's taking them from UN border camps.......He better be careful as too who he's letting in. Many on the left just support actions that make it harder for you. Hundreds of thousands of net immigration into this country is an unsustainable policy. I agree with most of this. The left generally do support policies that are actually harmful to ordinary working people in this country. It is a sort of misplace patriotism. They cannot be patriotic about their own country as of course they see the UK, the USA and Israel as the root of all evil. So they are fervently patriotic about people and countries that fit their politically correct worldview.

What makes me cringe is that Government policy on this appears to be being determined by the publishing of some pictures. We should all be very nervous when you have politicians that are driven by popularity rather than what is good for the country. We all know they are slaves to money but the double whammy is always depressing for me.

When you're talking about refugees, its different than people coming here to fill jobs. We're talking about people who basically don't have a home, or belong somewhere and probably face persecution, imprisonment or even death, often in a country regularly berated for its poor human rights. And if it means the UK standard of living dips slightly, or we have to raise taxes, to fulfill the needs of people who are refugees, then I'm quite happy to spend a few quid less to see people secured from persecution, rape, murder, oppression etc. Money well spent for a change.

What is good for the country, isn't really relevant when dealing with refugees, its about what is right. Good of the country, when the f**k did politicians ever make decisions about what is good for the country.

Being from Reading, and having spent a decade working in Slough, I'm quite used to living in a multi-cultural society (in fact in Slough, I wasn't even in the racial majority).

Ok so a few quid now, what happens when a few more thousand turn up? Another few quid? And then a couple more thousand? Some more spare cash? People who say 'let them in' don't seem to be able to tell us when we can say enough is enough. When do we decide we have too many? When YOU can't afford to part with a few more quid? And because you're happy to part with money and I'm not does that mean I don't have to? I really don't understand this 'oh it's only a few quid to save people from torture' belief. Come on, it's not that simple is it? If Liberals lead this country in the 40's we'd have been screwed.

I though the argument was about who receives what where, and why people, those who have already escaped the danger, would favour a particular destination. People who have in one way or other have been sheltered in a new country. I'm just not particularly convinced by your angle that they're only receiving 50 quid cash and therefore not living particularly luxuriously while in the most expensive property in Europe. Not sure if sympathy is now meant to extend to those who've made it.

Look at the prices around Norwood Junction, and they're ridiculously high, despite it being a bit of a s**thole. People pay those prices because they have to, because our property and rental prices are out of control. At no point is it really worth 250k to own a house in Catford, other than from the necessity.
