More madness...

Some players lost tens of thousands during the World Cup.

More fool them, they only have themselves to blame.

I think, based on their utter lack of the decision making on the pitch I could have been sold them all some magic beans tbh

Anyway - Jake White for England or as before the insular RFU throw in a few token World Class Johnny Foreigner names before selecting a proud Englishman who had a season coaching the Old Arseholians 3rd XV

You wouldn't fancy Dean Richards?

Going foreign isn't necessarily the answer though it has worked well for Wales with both Henry & Gatland. With Hansen though it was a disaster ans he isn't a bad coach is he?

Gatland had no international experience before we appointed him. He has a superb team around him which in rugby is absolutely key. He rules the roost (WRU) and what he says goes. Whoever you pick you need they need to have the balls to do it on their terms which is something I don't think Lancaster did (Burgess for example)

As a Wasps man though and seeing Gatlands teams there was no way he wasn't going to be able to do a job at international level and he nicked the entire backroom staff pretty much.

As for Deano - hell no. Have you seen Newcastle play - I know they are limited but saw them against the Chiefs and they weren't just limited in playing terms but clueless and spineless as well.

My preference is Jake White as I think England would suit a style of play that's a bit more pragmatic a la the Boks but I wont hold my breath. White also has the background, experience and attitude that would suggest he would do things on his terms and actually be allowed to by the old farts at Twickenham.

Totally off tangent - anyone see Wasps tear Leinster a new one at the weekend

Sadly not, I had the displeasure of watching Saints struggle past Scarlets though.

While I want Jake White to get the job, did you see Quins rip his Montpellier team apart at the weekend?

No English coach has the credentials for the job, but you're right about making sure the coach has total power over the team. The RFU need to stay out of selection and selection policies need to change.

Your lot were superb. As impressive a performance as I've seen in a long time and pretty clear the Pests have turned the corner after the travails of recent years. Mind you, the real rugby experts reckon Wigglesworth's a better 9 than Simpson (lol) so what do we know!!!!

So it looks like Eddie Jones. You lot happy with that?

I'm not sure about him to be honest.

Seems like the "cheap" option to me. It will be interesting to see his backroom staff. Whether they look to set up a team of coaches with a view to progression or just his own team.

Yep - I know what you mean. A bit 99p shop option against some of those we could have had.

I suspect Jake White (my preferred choice) is considered off limits because he would tell the RFU to f*** off and look to reduce their influence over the national team

Unless the RFU give him control it won't make much difference.

And they haven't.

Jones has confirmed there will be no change to the policy of only selecting home-based players.

Personally, I am ambivalent. We could have done worse, that's for sure. Short of hiring Wayne Smith, Chieka or Gatland I'm not sure we could have done an awful lot better. Jake White I would have felt the same about as Jones (and not getting a job he openly campaigned for was a pretty big slap in the face.) I suspect White's issue (erroneously) was that he's been out of the international eye for a while where Jones, in light of Japan, is the flavour of the moment. Either way, it's a big improvement on Lancaster et al. At least now we have a coach who knows what he's doing and we can start to move forward.

Coaching-wise I think you can assume Borthwick will be involved (which based on his work with Japan will be a very good hire.) Will be interested to see the central squad list (the talent is, as Jones said, clearly there in some positions though worryingly absent in others) and the captaincy issue resolved. I don't think there's any doubt that tactics will be massively improved. I wouldn't be surprised by a Grand Slam, to be honest.

And now back to the Heineken (or whatever it's called) and proper rugby.

I'm personally a little underwhelmed by Jones and doubt I am the only one. As for selection policy - European based players would seem to be nearby enough for selection, and the English clubs now have similar TV deals to the French, so the issue should be more-or-less over. Will someone tell the RFU please - perhaps they will get my carrier pigeon?

I am enjoying it

Tearing both Leinster and Toulon new ones in consecutive weeks tends to do that
