BA plane fire

At the scene: Lynne Alexander, passenger It all happened so fast and the crew were amazing. The plane was jetting across the runway to take off, when there was a bump and the plane starting screeching to a halt. I was sitting on the right hand side near the wing, but I could see the smoke from the left engine belching out. Debris was falling from the sky and I could smell smoke and fuel so knew it was a fire. People were getting out of their seats and the crew were trying to calm them down. Then the pilot said, "emergency evacuation... off plane now". People were pushing and shoving and screaming. There was panic but then the chute was deployed and down I went. Then we saw the flames and smoke. We all ran far from the plane as the fire crew arrived and doused the engine. Close call, but we're alive. And you all had time to get your hand luggage judging by the pictures!

Few minutes later - on or after take off - and could have ended very differently. Should all consider themselves very, very fortunate.

Very fortunate considering the film footage shows passengers leaving the plane and escaping across the runway with many of them carrying luggage. Presumably these idiots actually stopped to open up the overhead baggage lockers before escaping the burning plane.

All it took was the dickhead at the front to pick up their bag (presumably confident of their safe escape seeing a clear and short path to the exit) and the rest would follow as they were being held up anyway. Air travel is that unpleasant experience where you're constantly invconvenienced by others, often as a resut of their sheep instincts. I can't see an incident like this is going to change that. I personally would not be fcuking about though. A bit of smoke would have been enough for me to have jumped out the nearest door knowing the risks associated with aviation fuel. My last few flights I've travelled alone and it's a different experience. You just waltz past people checking they've got their passports for he 8th time at their wives request, couples arguing over who packed what, groups rendered ignorant to the presence of any other travelers by the excitement, and that's just in the queue.

It's the ones who took trolley cases down the emergency slides that really need a slap. Mind you, even women's handbags nowadays are fricking enormous and tend to have shiny metal things attached to them.

My son was on the exact plane 2 weeks ago- said it was the worst plane & flight he's ever been on, greedy Airlines not maintaining properly

Sure I Spotted this bloke hanging around the servicing bay at the airport.

Never mind if people get burned, just save your cabin luggage
Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season? |
