My first thoughts.....

Most of the countries like Poland are two faced... it's okay for their people to be economic migrants and hordes have settled here... yet they don't want anyone in their country!

What is the point of dividing up these refugees/migrants between countries? If they are accepted as EU citizens they will be free to travel wherever they want won't they?

Finally, I think the amounts arriving every day is beyond acceptable and Europe cannot cope. Our borders need re-instating asap.

Why is it deemed Europe's problem? These are middle eastern and African people. Other continents can share the load.

Only once citizenship has been granted. For example, if they travelled to the UK, as EU migrants, they could work, but could not claim benefits until they had completed a number of years in employment (from three to five dependent on the benefits).

Also the EU isn't talking about taking every single refuge, we're talking about a percentage of the 5m or so Syrian refugees. Its not as if the EU countries are the only place people are turning up. Lebanon has 1m refugees in a population of 4m.

But the point is Jamie... they will still come here... putting even more pressure on housing, schools, GP's, Hospitals etc etc

It makes more sense for them to go to Lebanon than Europe.

Chris
The Lebanese cant stand them,in fact my little knowledge of the Middle east is that the most of the whole area dont want them, just like the Palestinians.

Lots of paper talk but when it comes to it,bottom line is nobody in the other Middle east countries want them and are very happy that they are moving to Europe.

You'd think that truly desperate people would go to the nearest safe place.

Yes, but you can't just leave people in a campsite indefinitely.

A relevant point to consider here is that people from Syria who do make it into EU countries and claim asylum can't be sent back to Syria.

I would reject the idea of quotas for migrants, but the idea of distributing refuges and asylum applicants, specifically from camps is a more controlled method, that would also serve to reduce the impact on those countries where they do turn up.

The EU should maybe consider an incentive, countries that don't participate should be removed from the EU Free Movement. I notice that Poland, Romania, Hungary and the Czech republic all are quite happy with accepting the benefits of migration of their nationals into other countries.

Never mind camps. Why can't any of the numerous countries outside Europe take them permanently ?

That's an argument against Economic migration and the EU Right to Work (Which should never have been accepted) - I don't see how its an argument against accepting refugees.

What we're seeing in many cases is people who've been in the camps for a period of time, or have sufficient money to pay traffickers, headed into Europe.

They have to go somewhere, just ignoring the problem will just mean more trafficking. How long do you think a country like Lebanon will be able to cope with an additional 25% population swell from Refugees - and how long after that goes wrong that those 1m people look for somewhere else to go.

How many are you gonna put up Nick, bet you could take 3/4 to help out.....every little helps.

What I am doing is organising collections across my local schools for books, pens and paper etc to send to schools that have been set up in camps. Anyone who wants to donate can contact me via pm.

Because they're presently in the EU. I believe that the UNHCR are trying to locate refugees to numerous countries.

Isn't something like 250-300,000 believed to have made it into the EU, and we're all hissy about it being unfair, whilst Turkey has half a million, Lebanon has 1m and Jordan another half a million.

I like the idea that the Western nations should just 'wash their hands' of the problem, and let them go live in the camps for decades, or go back to Syria. I mean neither of these options would in anyway end up bolstering IS and related terrorist groups at all.

They ? You mean their government or their people ?

I think you will find that most people don't want them in Europe either. Only a noisy minority as usual.

If you believe that Britain should take some responsibility for these refugees then you must also believe that everyone else should too.

I agree MOST in Europe don't want them either.
If people come in the correct manner (whatever that is) then we should help.
