Good old fashioned protest. Although I'd certainly draw the line at some of those puns. Shockingly poor standard.

Spitting in someone's face is a bit out of order. Still, its all part of the day out, along with the sneaky slap from a copper and someone who's decided that a protest march is an excuse for a p*ssup with his mates.

A friend of my fathers was telling me his stories of policing football matches in Nottingham and having to take shuriken / death stars out of his helmet. Which makes an egg at a political demo seem a bit tame. Kids these days.

No it's not.

Fancy dress doesn't make you look like a credible protester either. It just makes you look like a moron having a day out and pretending they're an anarchist.

A bit out of order? It's one of the most disgusting things you could do and shows all the intellect of pond life.

Yeah, you're right on the button with the spitting and taunting, especially on Journalists - These are the people you want to not upset.

But protests aren't a display of intellect, if they were, rather than actually go out in a mob of 60,000 they'd go out individually or in small groups and cause some proper civil disobedience on a wide scale that the police couldn't actually logistically handle. Its all really just a safety value by which people think they've 'done something', and the pressure is released, and everyone goes back to work on the Monday.

Its all a bit tame these days though, when the worst that can be reported is some people spitting, someone being egged.

Good grief - we had this on our own doorstep just 4 years ago.

Amazing isn't it, I thought Northerners were way more than 4 years behind us.

Protests like this are just an excuse for class war style anarchists to wreck property and carry out violence towards the police.

Once again Corbyn shows he has no chance of becoming PM by condoning the protest.

Jesus do those people even exist still in any meaningful numbers?

Protest is a right (or more correctly a meaningless safety value by which sections of society 'misbehave' without actually causing real trouble). Peaceful protest is meaningless, you need some good old fashioned civil disobedience.

If you're going to 'change the system and break the status quo' you'll not achieve it by just showing up, throwing eggs and being a bit naughty for a day.

This is the first tory government since 1997, so it's hardly the status quo.

Most people protesting have never known a tory government in their adult life.

I think that should have served as a turning point for a lot of people, the realization that there is no real difference between those in power and those in opposition, because they ultimately serve the interests of corporations over people, business over society. I prefer the honest of the Conservatives, over the hypocrisy of Labour.

Because in the end, nothing really changes, we all just feel that we did something meaningful for five seconds every 1800 or so day.

If we really wanted change, we'd engineer it within our own communities and lives; becoming the change we want to see, not walking around with boards on sticks that essentially say 'We don't want that'. But they'd probably all be complaining at the cost of 'not having that' (i.e. more taxes). Its sad to see people thinking that you could spend the budget of Trident on the NHS, and it would make 'everything' better (it wouldn't change a thing, both parties would still seek out their agenda over the NHS without actually maybe looking at what the NHS actually needs to be effective, and as efficient as possible to serve the most people in society).

Labour and then the ConDems outsourced as massive amount of civil service work to Manchester, from the SE through centralized processing centers. Quite a few people I know ended up being unemployed as a result.

There were of course no real protests in Manchester when that happened.

Sad that the legitimate protest of many was spoilt by the stupidity of the few.

Sad that the right wing press bleat because they get picked on by the very people they seek to goad into action.

Reminds me of the glory days of 77 when Bill Grundy when he goaded the Pistols to say something then got shocked when they did!

Channel 4, the Daily Mirror and the Huffington Post are right wing are they?

Well in fairness, the Daily Mirror is a piece of s**t journalism, its like a boring version of The Sun (which I at least get offended by a bit). The Huffington Post is probably one of the most 'liberal left' journals out there, that isn't just batsh*t crazy'), whilst Channel 4 I find to be fairly impartial.

Sod the fact they won a free and fair election, no matter which why they try to cut it, and sod the consensus of the nation too. "I'm more important/more right" seems to be their attitude.

It's a lady version of The Sun, except it sticks to the left and doesn't claim to follow whoever it seems will win next.

Even if all those abused were right wing media, it wouldn't then make it any more acceptable.

These people are incredibly dim. This is hardly going to make more people vote left-wing, if anything not being on the side of the protesting, moronic left can only enhance the Tories' image. Carry on, idiots.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Protest by its very nature is going to be seen as unacceptable by some. That's kind of the point. If people protest for something I find abhorrent or pointless, I'm still pleased they are able to do it. Moaning on a forum is a protest of sorts. Getting out of the house to do it at least involves light exercise too .
