I remember seeing Tommy Cooper in Catford in the 70s. They announced his name at the beginning and the spotlight went to the "Wings" - he didn't come on straight away as expected and the audience just broke into laughter !!!!

When he came out he was carrying a miniture gate - more howls of laughter ! He put the gate down, opened it and just walked through - more laughter !!!! Genius.

Finally, many years ago my wife and I were staying in a Cardiff hotel and as the "Bell Boy" was taking us to the suite he uttered words to the effect "Tommy Cooper has stayed in this suite". We felt very privileged.

Willo my old man said he did the exact same thing when he went to watch him. No one knew what the gate was for and every 20 mins he would say 'excuse me' go and walk through the gate, shut it then carry on. The audience were howling!!

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Bizarrely went to a pub quiz last night and one of the rounds was to shape a pumpkin out of play dough. Randomly opted for this Tommy Cooper pumpkin. Didn't win. There's a small chance they may not of recognised him.

The face should've been 2x longer than the Fez and the trophy would've been yours

Tommy Cooper. I guess he made more laugh than didn't.
Job done.

Time to move forward together.

Nothing dates like comedy. Tommy Cooper was a funny man but I can see why a young person seeing an old clip would be mystified. My Mum saw Max Miller live and says he was a very funny act but whatever it was he had was very much of its time.

I have always been left cold by the Goonshow but there were programmes that I loved in years gone by that I see or listen to now and wonder what I saw in them. I am sad to say that a lot of Monty Python has that effect on me now.

One old radio show that I think does stand up to the test of time is Round the Horne. Still wonderful.

I loved Tommy Cooper, It's Woody Allen I couldn't get.

You have to be a middle-class Jewish New Yorker who frequents their 'shrink' in order to fully appreciate the overated director of many a truly shocking film. Nothing even gets blown up FFS.

I love Woody Allen, but then I also studied a lot of Freudian Psychology...

I'm a mild Tommy Cooper fan, he was my dad's favorite. I'm a big Woody Allen fan - of his earlier work before around 1995 that is. It is of great interest that his work dropped in quality so much after his breakup with Mia Farrow and marrying Farrow's adopted daughter.

Now thats funny

Yep... he's cooking on comedy gas right now.

I hope Lee Mack uses some of that gas to poison Russell Howard who is not in the slightest bit funny.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.
