Corbyn is a cock without doubt. I also don't think he is as intelligent as many make out. He makes some valid points but are lost when he comes out with crap like not being happy with shoot to kill policy. He has watched too many westerns. Once the decision to shoot is made, you can't piss about trying to "wing" someone. His pontificating shows a real lack of understanding of the real world. The reality of balancing his conscience with the duty of government is probably very difficult for him. It doesn't make him less intelligent or a lesser person nor does it mean that we have to agree with his point of view. That will all come out at the ballot box. Then surely if he was that bright he would have known that before entering the fray. You can't have it both ways. His posturing is pathetic, how easy do you think it would be take someone like Jihadi John as a prisoner? especially when he doesn't want troops on the ground (hover boards maybe?) Equally shoot to kill should always be No1 priority. You can always argue around the circumstances of the decision to fire, but once made, then it is a double tap thank you very much.

The Guardian I think he has misjudged the Zeitgeist and the intelligence of the average punter, he is making an intellectual point about state sponsored murder by extra-judicial action and the cluster feck that is UK political strategy. On the other hand you are, like a stopped clock that is right twice a day, accidentally correct. The provos wanted independence from [what they viewed as] Imperial control in a country in which they lived. They did not achieve that; but they did get a share of power and a fairer and stronger franchise. That was only achieved by Major opening up dialogue with terrorists. However, what can we offer ISIS by way of concession? A free hand in Syria and Iraq? The whole of the Middle East? Large swathes of eastern Asia? The conversion of our whole population to their brand of Islam? They will not settle for anything we can offer them. ISIS is an ideology so utterly opposed to every value it took centuries for the West to construct and for which there are daily battles to preserve that there is literally no common ground. They are not misunderstood. This is not a case where what they actually want is relatively modest, fair and achievable and, if only we opened discussions, this matter would be resolved without further bloodshed. The only thing stopping us from bombing them back to the Stone Age is offending the very principles on which our civilisation rests; the colossal collateral damage of innocents killed; and the radicalisation of many who are uninvolved and just doing what they can to survive.

Jeremy Corbyn would authorise the lethal use of force against terrorists in Paris-style attacks if he became Prime Minister, HuffPostUK can reveal. In his report to Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee today, the Labour leader has made clear that he would approve ‘proportionate and strictly necessary force’ in response to attacks like that by ISIL killers at the Bataclan concert hall. But Mr Corbyn also stresses that the law must be upheld and that he believes that ‘shoot to kill’ policies are to be avoided, not least because of ‘recent’ incidents, believed to be a reference to the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes and Northern Ireland’s Troubles. But as part of his NEC report, he has clarified his position is in line with Labour policy. "As we have seen in the recent past, there are clear dangers to us all in any kind of shoot to kill policy,” he says. “And we must ensure that terrorist attacks are not used to undermine the very freedoms and legal protections we are determined to defend. "But of course I support the use of whatever proportionate and strictly necessary force is required to save life in response to attacks of the kind we saw in Paris".
