Looks like I might be wrong about it being a militia, two of the shooters are dead, a man called Syed Farook & a woman called tashfeen Malik.
Farook was shooting up his work colleagues

They were armed to the teeth so this was well planned.

Spree shootings always are well planned by the perpetrator(s). Its rarer for people to get up and think f**k it, I'm going to kill everyone at work. More usually its a simmering resentment that builds up over time into mental health proportions, and they cope with that stress by planning and prepairing, making lists, manifestos, declarations and so on.

So a terrorist attack or not ? No doubt the usual suspects will be making excuses for it and the other usual suspects will want blood. Meanwhile will the authorities tell the truth about it anyway ? Three lone gunman who just happened to meet and have a shoot up maybe.

From the BBC:

Police in California have named two suspects killed after a mass shooting which left 14 people dead at a social services centre.

The man and woman, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, were killed in an exchange of fire with police.

Farook had been a San Bernardino public health employee for five years, police chief Jarrod Burguan said.

The attack took place at an event on Wednesday for Farook's colleagues. None of the victims has been identified.

No motive has been established, but the FBI is considering both workplace violence and terrorism, according to David Bowdich from the bureau's Los Angeles office.

The Inland Regional Center, where the shooting took place, provides services for people with developmental disabilities, but the shooting appeared to be unrelated to its clients.

The incident marks the deadliest mass shooting in the US since 26 people were killed at a school in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012.

Mr Burguan, who said another 17 people were wounded, said police were "reasonably confident" that there were just two shooters.

A third person seen running from the scene was detained, but police said it was unclear whether that person was involved.

Both suspects were killed in their vehicle after a shoot-out with police involving 20 officers. A tip-off had earlier led police to a house in nearby Redlands.

The dead man and woman were believed to be a couple, the police chief said. They were armed with assault rifles and semi-automatic handguns and wore military-style clothing.

The authorities said all the weapons had been purchased legally but did not explain how they got into the hands of the perpetrators.

One police officer was injured, but his injuries are not life threatening.

Three possible explosive devices were found at the Inland Regional Center, where the shooting took place.

Mr Burguan said that Farook had left the event - which was possibly a holiday party for employees or a meeting - "under some circumstances that were described as angry," and returned with Malik.

San Bernardino is a city of about 200,000 people, 60 miles (100 km) east of Los Angeles.

..it appears Syed Farook was a bit religious in his religion.

Wouldn't surprise me - It'll be interesting to see what the US reaction is if its an IS inspired attack compared to the usual spree shooting? Maybe given he attacked 'work mates' its a combination of the two. A lot of the spree killers tend towards 'extremist views and ideas', it wouldn't be a stretch for someone who was a Muslim to do the same.

..going overseas, then returning with a new wife doesn't sound too good, you mentioned before about internment during problems in the past, if we are going to stop all this nonsense how can this be done because I can't see any other way, it will be messy doing it with many bloodbaths because all the nutters will come out and expose themselves..but in the long run worth it I reckon.

Doesn't sound promising. I don't think Internment will actually work because long term it tends to catch too many innocent people in its web and gets used indiscriminately - Also problematically we're talking about a 'very long war' here, which means holding a lot of people without trial, indefinitely, which in itself is very problematic.

Used very selectively, but then that relies on sufficient evidence, which probably would mean it would be just as easy to convict them on 'conspiracy to commit terrorism' etc. Internment can work if you know who really is a threat, but then if you do, you could detain them under anti-terrorism laws anyhow.

..good points.

Shame it wasn't Feb, they can't shoot for s**t by then.

I'm not really sure a Charity for the Disabled, where you work, really constitutes a terrorist target. But these days it seems an Eagles of Death Metal gig counts, so who knows.

Terrorists? or just three nutters? But why would terrorists go for a place like that instead of say a shopping centre ? Then at the same time its hard to believe that you'd get three nutters together willing to do that.I suppose Columbine had two loons but thats rare so to get three would seem unthinkable.

Who mentioned ''terrorists''?

Conditioning is working.

He asked a question you raging half-wit.

If you think it is beyond the realms of possibility that a mass shooting might be carried out by terrorists then I suggest you expand your reading list from Polly Toynbee's column in the Guardian.

There are no gun reforms because the NRA are so aggressive.
Congressmen (and women) who vote for gun reform are usually not long serving. The NRA go after them in elections in a big way. In many cases they organize recall votes where available.

The thing about recalls is that the incumbent tends to be screwed as they historically have very low turnouts, and most of those are the ones trying to oust the incumbent. Think of it like online reviews. You are more likely to write a review when angry than happy.

They put alot of money and time, fearmongering and outright lying, to get that person out of office.
They set an example to the rest of congress and many of them are too scared for themselves to act.

I went to lunch at a Thai today with 6 other people, 3 of them were carrying. Why do they carry ? fear of other people with guns.

Hmmm looking more likley that it was at the very least religious in origin and the worst it was terrorism, makes the dude that accused a few on here of media lead knee jerking look a bit of a t w a t t.

As for Guns no I dont think they should be as easy to purchase and so avalible to the general public as they are in the USA. Its absolutley Tonto that without any training in firearms saftey you can go into a shop and buy a mechanism whose sole and only purpose is to kill or maim.

Yes I know people get stabbed, but that is not a knifes only purpose, it is a sad fact that they are used to kil however a kitchen knifes main purpose is to prick the sausages or open those anoying packets that say "easy open" (that are stuck together with a mixture of concrete and super glue).

A guns sole and only purpose is essentially to hand out indiscrimanate death. And yet anyone can buy one, and they wonder why they have so many people going bonkers with an array of automatic weapons so vast it would make the SAS green with envy.

The NRA say guns don't kill people, people do.

Well actually I think the gun may help a bit, shouting bang bang with a pointed finger at your victim just doesnt really do the same damage.
