A Palace fan too by all accounts....

James William Thomas Hill was born in Balham. He grew up a Crystal Palace supporter but played his first match as a professional for Brentford before making the short move to Craven Cottage in March, 1953. Fulham was to be his last destination as a player. The wing half made 276 appearances for the London club before injury forced his retirement at the age of 33 in 1961.

RIP - however, I wasn't a fan of his. I wrote to him when we had the Clive Allen 'goal' ruled out at Coventry to suggest that his players should have owned up to it being a goal. Let's just say that he did not think much of that suggestion.

actually i also wrote to him after the game as well, give him his due, actually wrote back but did add in postscript " of course it was a goal " rip jimmy

I grew up with Jimmy Hill as the voice, face and chin of football.

RIP and thanks for making 3 points for a win happen Jimmy.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

To be wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it.

Legend as a player, union leader, commentator and presenter - as well as a good laugh and possession of the worlds, then, greatest chin.

Last night's news couldn't have summed it up better. Headlines about Jimmy Hill passing away at the age of 87 having had dementia and the subsequent tributes, followed by the next item on Lord Jenner denying his "alleged" victims justice by dying at the age of 87 from dementia. Some lives are richer than others.

RIP Jimmy Hill

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I'm not sure his campaign to improve player's wages has ultimately helped the game.... look at the obscene wages of Rooney, Ronaldo etc and their agents fees - all of which take huge amounts of money out of the game and has led to Sky/BT and others controlling the game effectively and us fans treated like 2nd class citizens expected to turn up at any time it suits them to support our club.

Still... he was a bit of a legend... if only for that amazing chin.

If any of you want a good laugh watch "The Crying Game - Comic Strip Presents"... it is so funny with a great impression of him by Phil Cornwell... the clip below gives an idea...

For 30 years after the cap was lifted the players wages were reasonable and only the very, very best were wealthy. Shilton was the first £1,000 a week player in 1978/79.

It was Sky money that made things go bonkers. Can't blame Jimmy for that.

He let the genie out of the bottle Kerms.

£1000 per week in the 70's was huuuge.... I started work in 1972 for less than £1000 per annum mate!

Bosman, Agents and TV coverage has just further egged the pudding he wrote the recipe for.
