On his day he's a real handful and would be a big player for us, but those days seem to be getting less and less.

This looks to me more and more like happening. I think, just as in real life where we sometime burn out in a job, Shelvey has simply reached the end of his time at Swansea, has lost focus, and needs to move on. This'll happen because doing so would suit all parties...there seems to be a recognition of this. And he's a very good player; exactly the sort of move that will tweak an already good team like Palace.

Would not be massively surprised if one or two ours went in the other direction. Given Swansea's present situation, a Ledley or a Jedi may be attractive to them.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Given how they seem to have abandoned their free flowing football principles and turned into functional hackers based on our recent encounter Jedi would be right up their alley.

Agree - I think this one is a cert.

Certainly put pressure on Punch and an upgrade on Mutch

Would be amazed if Ledley went there given his history.

I remain to be convinced but if this comes off he will get my full support (and it will piss off the clowns if he does well)

Hopefully we can get our business done early in the transfer window so we can push on for the second half of the season and avoid missing out on deals. It would be nice to avoid the usual last day shenanigans!

I like the sound of this. AP previously managed him at Charlton so must know he can handle his personality if he wants him, that’s good enough for me.

Whilst it saddens me that Ledley may suffer, the thought of Cabaye, Shelvey, McCarthur and Puncheon rotating in the midfield three has really cheered me up this morning.

I am sure Pardew will get the best out of him. My question is what kind of role he might play in midfield? I believe (though stand to be corrected) that for England this season he performed in a holding midfield position? If so that would be great. He could help to break up attacking play and then pass through to Zaha and Bolasie, or through to Wickham etc?

I think he is a rocket for Punch, and will be our no.10.Puncheon has not created and been good in the last 3 months,so Pardew is investing to give us more creativity up top.Dont think Jimmy Macs place is under threat with him/Yohan/Ledley being the holding midfield.

My thoughts would be that he’d play a similar role to Cabaye as both are excellent passes of the ball or it could allow Cabaye to push further forward into Puncheon’s position, leaving Shelvey to sit with McCarthur. Right now, on form, the player missing out would be Puncheon as McCarthur and Cabaye are having great seasons.

Remember a year ago Punch was still on the wing,Pardew came in and made him a no.10,so he has never addressed this position yet, just used Puncheon there so far as a stop gap.

.

Shelvey could only have been 16 or 17 when Pardew was at Charlton.

Of course signing for Palace will end his England career...Woy knows best!
