Being linked with the above.

Big, strong, quick, young English talent. Not sure if he's the answer to our goals situation right now but for the future maybe, instead of Gayle.

I for one would be massively underwhelmed if we spent £20 million and only had Shelvey and Afobe to show for it...

I have seen Afobe twice recently and I know people who have watched him.He certainly has pace and power and is right-footed.Has played not only as main striker but just behind a striker and also out wide.

Recently at Wolves he has become bored at ploughing a lone furrow up front and has had a tendency to drop deeper to get the ball but Jackett has wanted him to stay right up top.Against Brighton recently he was a bit isolated up front, ran himself into the ground and was substituted near the end.One of his closest friends is Jack Wilshere.I think Wolves paid Arsenal £2 Mill for him.I believe that Derby are planning a bid for him.

Admittedly I have only seen him once - last weekend at Brighton. However, the blog article exactly articulated how I felt about Afobe's performance in that game.

If Wickham can become a number ten then whoever we play as central striker will prosper. CW has many of the attributes of Sheringham, a great number ten, and time on is side to learn the role.

Whether Afobe is the player to play in front of him I am not sure but would trust the club have seen more of him than me.

I think he could be a very good squad replacement for Gayle if Gayle moves to Norwich or Newcastle. I like what I see in this clip of some of his goals. He's a youth international for England, fast powerful and strong and an eye for goal. If we also bring in a more experienced striker like Remy or Austin, he could add greatly to the overall strength of our striker resources

If we did splash out £20m on Afobe and Shelvey, I think that at least half would be offset by players going out, ie.

Gayle
Jedinak or Ledley
Campbell
Maybe permanently sell Jack Hunt

I'm not sure how championship goal scorers end up with such high valuations. Wolves turned down a 10 million bid in the summer, that's more than we paid for Wickham and the same as what we might pay to get Shelvey.

Considering the risk element; he could be the next Igahlo as easily as being the next Bamford, I'd hope if this is who we're going for, then the deal consists of mostly add ons and a sell on fee.

That said he does look a handy player with all the right physical attributes to be a success.

Much more physical presence than Bamford. He might be on the short list as it were if we dont get Remy or Austin.
