It seems to me that, if you have no intention of renewing a player's contract (that's expiring in June), then you'd have to be a complete arse to object to him speaking to other clubs.

It doesn't really matter whether you intend to offer the player a new contract or not. It's a free labour market and the player would be a fool not to shop around. How else can he find out his worth? If he gets lots of contract offers from other clubs better than the one his present club has offered him then he can either leave or have a useful bargaining tool. And his present club would expect him to do that. I don't think we'd have any problem with those out of contract looking around; that's the way it works.

In all honesty the situation is very straightforward. A player who knows his contract is ending will have his agent put out feelers. That's what agents are for. At some point, he'll have offers on the table from both his present and other clubs and he'll make a decision which contract to sign. Simple. Even the player who wants to stay where he is would be stupid not to follow this protocol; why would anyone not find out what they were worth on the open market?

My sentiments exactly; it seems that it's probably just Big Sam who has an issue (if you've looked at Willo's link)

It's common knowledge that players who enter their final six months of their contract can speak to other clubs. So those players at Palace can do if they wish.

This would infer that a player with 6 months or less can automatically talk any without requiring permission from their parent club. This is not my understanding at all but I will seek to clarify this.My understanding is that the "6 month rule" pertains to foreign clubs only.As I say, I will seek to find out as my understanding could be totally awry.

Why not just post when you have received clarification then instead of just saying that you will check up

Do you really need that answering? It's his neediness

I believe CA to be correct. Rule applies to English clubs also.

I believe CA to be correct. Rule applies to English clubs also.

Reading the link provided by Willo indicates that a player cannot sign a pre-contract with a British club, but can with a club from abroad. Does it even explicitly state that a player cannot talk to another club. The article indicates that enticement is not allowed, but is not explicit.

Thus Willo's argument appears to be undermined by his own evidence.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Only one who'd really impact the club (as it stands) is Hangeland, and I'd hope we're looking at replacements (whether that be converting Kelly or someone from elsewhere).

Jules, Mariappa, Chamakh don't play (Chamakh looks horribly off the pace since his return, too)

Jules is a great keeper, and has been amazing for us and a better back up to Hennessey than McCarthy. That said if he wants to get first team action then he's earned that right (ideally on loan).

I think you mean 'imply', Willo.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
