I am guessing that many / most of you wont have heard of Brummie Stokes. He and his his sidekick Bronco Lane served in the SAS and climbed Everest losing several toes to frostbite.

If tales of derring-do is your thing, then I can recommend his book Soldiers & Sherpas.

I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1981 as a scrawny 16 yr old apprentice tradesman. A real inspiration
