No one seems to have the balls to take a gamble on Rhodesy. He hasn't been tested at Premier League level but either had Charlie Austin until QPR got promoted last season. Rhodes has scored plenty of goals at every level he HAS played at though and to me looks more then capable to be a top flight striker. He has also played at international level which Austin hasn't. He's still only 25 and has a great finishing quality and definitely knows where the back of the neck is. Palace need a natural goal scorer and Jordan would only thrive on wingers like Bolasie and Zaha delivering him balls into the box as well as Cabaye and Puncheon feeding him clever passes. Why are we not making a move for him and giving him a chance like in my opinion he deserves. He is a quality number 9 and I 100% believe he is ready for the Premier League.

I do wonder whether he would be another Patrick Bamford. Awesome in the Championship but lacking for the Premier League.

Plus, it would cost us a great deal to find out rather than just a loan fee.

If he was that good, and I don't think he is he would have been snapped up long ago. And anyway we are so slow to do deals in any transfer window he would have been long gone to another club while we were still down at W H Smiths buying a pen to sign the contract with.

Bolasie is injured and Zaha doesn't seem to be pitting decent balls into the box. He would rather try and take everyone on with his fancy flicks and s***.

I'd take the gamble on Rhodes but we need 1/2 midfielder who can get the into the box as well.

Punch and Zaha not been on great form and can't be dropped as we have no one to replace them with.

I agree completely with you on this - he is a very good player.

I second that - the most natural finisher in the Championship and a player who bags goals season after season.
Would love to sign him.

Yeah he puts ball in net no mucking about but Blackburn turned down 11mil plus from Middlesbrough if I remember. So I'm guessing there after 12.5 to 15 mil for him and that just seems a lot when he's unproven at prem level. But it's 3mil more than wickham and Rhodes scores so why not. We need someone desperately or I fear we will start to slide.

Realistically, regardless of our recent relative success (bar recent run) we still struggle to attract top quality and proven players at this level. This, without taking into account any politics or agent skulduggery, leaves us in a position whereby we pay over the odds on a risk from a lower league that may or may not pay-off, or we don't. I feel confident in hypothesising that we won't be signing a prolific striker from abroad nor The Premier League and on those grounds would favour us making a move for Rhodes.

I have always liked Rhodes. I would not be upset if we bought him. I think he would do great for us.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't pay 10 m for him, 6 or 7 maybe.

I'm probably out of step with everyone else but I would have gone for him long ago. He will score more often than not.

I pretty much agree with this. I'd rather have Dembele from Fulham if we're going to sign a Championship player but the issue with Rhodes is that he's going to require a fee in excess of his real value for a player who'd be a gamble. Plus, I think we'd have to significantly change our tactical approach to get the best out of him and I doubt we are willing to do that. I think Pards not only wants a forward, but a certain type of forward. Anyway, at 5-6 million it'd be worth it. At 10 million, really not.

As an addendum, think about it this way: Rhodes is going to cost you say 9 million in transfer fees and a 3 year contract at around 50k a week (at a guess) for a player unproven at this level.

Adebayor is going to cost you nothing and a 6 month contract at maybe 80,000k a week for a proven Premier League player. So all in all, you're gambling 16 million on Rhodes versus a little over 1 million on Adebayor. And if that one million doesn't pan out, you've got the other 15 million to spend in the summer when there's a better market. Rhodes is too much for someone unproven unless Pards believes he is the real deal.

Has this been proven? Or is it just a case of trying to get value for money. When you buy a car, do you just buy the first one you see or do you wait, shop around etc?

This myth that we are awful in the transfer window is just that - a myth! For some reason, fans seem to wet their knickers every time a transfer window opens and think we should be out there spending money just for the sake of it. Every transfer window we have brought players in at the right time, for the right money - or would you rather we be ripped off and spend £8m on the likes of Lewis Grabban?

Would have thought a punt on Adebayor for 6 months would be a no brainer as he is going to score us goals.
Rhodes is perhaps too much of a risk at this level where the former is well proven.
