A boxer can throw three types of punch, vs an MMA fighter who can use most parts of his body as a weapon plus ground fighting. I would love Mayweather's mouth and attitude to talk him into a scrap with McGregor, it would be over quickly but it would be pure heaven to watch him finally get a beating. However I'm sure Mayweather knows this and wouldn't be stupid enough to get within range.

In a cage or in a boxing ring you've still got a boxer vs MMA fighter. No contest.

four.

You're not one of these people who thought Ronda Rousey would be able to hold her own in a fight with Mayweather too, are you?

Firstly - a jab and a cross are both straights so to all intents and purposes it's three punches.

That aside, technically yes she should be able to kick Mayweather's ass without even throwing a punch:

Range of kick > range of punch

Throw in the fact that Mayweather has never been trained to defend against anything other than a boxer, he wouldn't have a clue how to protect himself against the varying attacks of an MMA fighter.

Haha you have no clue what your talking about, the same rousey thst got dominated by holly holm an ex boxing champion

This is the worst argument ever, yes Holm's was a boxing champion, but she was also a kick boxing champion and started her career in kick boxing before boxing. Hence knocking out Rousey with a head kick. She is a true MMA fighter. MMA stands for MIXED martial arts. She isn't just a boxer.

So a professional boxer is not capable of learning another martial art, so mayweather one of the greatest boxers ever and probably the most intelligent wouldn't be capable of learning another martial art, if you think that's the case then you are an idiot, not that he would bother when he can make over 10 times the amount as a boxer and do you really think any of these guys would turn down the chance to fight for 7 figure purses, of course they wouldn't but the fact is they would never be good enough to make it to the top in boxing.

You're a very angry little man, aren't you?

I didn't say Mayweather wasn't capable of learning MMA - even if it has taken Holm's 5 years of moving from boxing to MMA to win a title.

I'm saying you coming on here and telling people they don't know what they are taking about then saying Holm's is a boxer is laughable, especially as she started as a Kickboxer.

I'm not sure why you think bringing up how much a boxer makes has any bearing on who would win either? I'm pretty certain if you read the second post on this thread I said that comparing boxing and UFC was impossible.

But you carry on pretending that you know everything about MMA and boxing, petal.

Plus McGregor earned between $7-8 million for his last fight

Just look at the purses and that tells you everything you need to know, there's a dozen boxers that can make over 5 million a fight, if these mma guys were that good why not just switch to boxing and earn 10 times what there used to. Completely different sports but you get 2 mma guys competing, one could be amazing at striking and useless at bjj, where as his opponent could come from a wrestling background who's had a bit of kickboxing training, 2 boxers at the highest level are both experts in their field and therefore 9 times out of 10 you will get a fairer, more competitive better quality bout.

all the purses tell you is that boxing is a well established mainstream sport vs MMA which by comparison is in its infancy.

Exactly so if your that good an athlete why not make as much money as you can, mcgregor was originally a boxer who wasn't good enough to make a decent career so switched to mma like plenty of others, name me one person that quite mma to go on and become a world champion boxer. No one and give mayweather a year mma training and he would more than hold his own, give any mma fighter a year to train and put then in a boxing match against a current champion and they would get completely embarrassed and wouldn't win a round.

Probably the same reason that all triathletes aren't rushing to be Premier League footballers.

I think you're over-simplifying it and underestimating what's required to be a top MMA fighter, to think that you can acquire all of the skills to really compete in that environment in a year. I'd love to see Mayweather train as an MMA fighter and see him outside his comfort zone but he won't do that for many reasons.

I think you'd find that most boxers would lose against top level MMA fighters and most MMA fighters would lost against top level boxers - that's a no brainer. But in a stand-up fight, if they're of a comparable ability, an MMA fighter will mostly win because it's a much more comprehensive style of fighting - based on actual fighting systems rather than sports.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, unless we get a UFC x WBO bonanza on Sky!

I know plenty about boxing mate, mma just as much as your casual fan, the reason why I bring up the purse is because if you are that good then you make as much as you can, name me one failed mma fighter that has achieved anything in boxing, not one, mma is full of ex boxers who weren't good enough, whatever mcgregor earnt in his last fight he could times that by 10 if he switched to boxing but he isn't good enough, and you will never know how good the best boxers would get on in mma as they wouldn't even bother because it wouldn't make no sense financially.

Regardless of who won my point was about MMA vs boxing and what each has in its locker. Look at the knockout...

RR leaning in to throw a punch and nowhere near connecting with the target. HH using the longer range of a kick and knocking her opponent out. Technically MMA fighter should always beat a boxer. Regardless of what she was, HH is now an MMA fighter.

Mate mayweather wouldn't even need to get out of 1st gear to beat either of them, if you think any differently then you need your head testing.

Can't believe such a silly debate is taking place:

If it was straight boxing Mayweather would win.

MMA McGregor would win.

If it was kicks and punches - it would be close but probably Mayweather.

Bring in knees 50/50.

Bring in full MMA McGregor would get him on the floor. End of fight... Unless of course Mayweather trains in MMA first..,

Bellator (UFC's American rivals) are coming to London in the summer. There will be some high profile fights featuring previous and present boxers competing in MMA so we may get to see!

I believe they put on better shows than UFC
