Glad to see a Tory MP campaigning for something really important:

It does underline the absurdity of the UK policy, which does fly in the face of evidence and research from the last 30 years showing that the war on drugs (Labour weren't any better).

An absurd piece of legislation that essentially won't make much difference except to criminalise people unnecessary and to stimulate the black market in recreational drugs, and create greater problems for society. Its also questionable how this would be enforceable with countries not in the UK, that don't enforce this legislation.

At a time when even the most vocal and ardent Anti-Drug nation (the US) is moving in the opposite direction and benefitting, the UK seems to be stuck in the past.

The idea that maybe you could purchase recreational drugs from a legal, government registered source, on line at a reasonable price would present a more viable solution (allowing control of quality, price, distribution and manufacture - which would arguably be good for users, addicts, police resourcing and the victims drug related crime).

Legalise and tax recreational drugs.

Politicians know it makes sense but are too afraid of upsetting Middle England. Hard to blame Middle England though when we have been repeatedly been told how evil all illegal drugs are rather than having a proper discussion about them.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Keep drugs illegal.

The fact is that all drugs are damaging to the individual and society. Drugs break up families, destroy individuals and cause communities to dissolve.

I am sure that proponent's of drug liberalisation can provide many studies that 'prove' that drugs are more harmful illegal than legal but I just do not buy it.

The amount of people I have personally seen had their lives f***ed up through drugs and wish they had never come into contact with them is enough for me.
