The question I can't find answered is which black actors/filmakers from last year are considered to have been excluded and for which roles/films?

Idris Elba 'Beasts of No Nation' should have been in there. Very well received film by even the harshest of critics.

Not that I disagree, but who should he have taken the place of?

Wilfred Hyde White, of course.

I don't know but if he had been chosen it would have (and should have) been on merit. But as Jim said earlier box office flops don't really cut the mustard where nominations are concerned for some daft reason.

That was my point. It's very easy for people to say that there should be x amount in the acting categories but none of them would dare say who should be replaced. They clearly think someone is less deserving than a black actor, but they won't say it. Just that it's not right.

If it was about box office do you think The Hurt Locker would've won over Avatar?

Well that;s done it. Wil Smith is boycotting the ceremony.
A real tragedy since his body of work is impressive.
If he stars in more films as great as After Earth and Bad Boys he is bound to be nominated before long.

Saw a rant about black actors not being respected enough by the BBC and having to move to America. As in Hollywood, like every other serious actor?!

queue a load of token nominations for people of colour at next year's awards, which is just as farcical as none at all.

Only if it's the only film you have ever seen.

No gay nominees either so does that make them racist and homophobic?

LOL

To be honest this a nonstory, I doubt there is any deliberate racism, perhaps there is a bias towards mainstream Hollywood movies.

As Ice Cube said on the BBC, who cares, the Oscars is the old way to market films and in a few years this will all be an anathema. As for Chris Rock the guy is in a no win situation.

It ain't like it is the Good Ole Boys Movie awards.
