Secondly I've never read such a load of hand wringing apologist bollocks.

Hmm, don't think I apologised for anything or anyone, should I? I thought it was too good to last when you complimented me, you do rather like to attack people in a personal fashion don't you?

I don't think the Police should have even given a caution.....It gives it more prominence than it deserved.

Someone should have called him out on stereotyping an individual's opinions based upon their perceived group.

While as a general group, opinion polls have revealed rather intolerant views amongst varying amounts of Muslims it's wrong to label a random person as a representative of what you don't like.

However, I also agree with the point that too many people on the left spend hardly any time complaining about the intolerance of Muslims with known horrible views yet spend large amounts attacking those that complain about them. There's a kind of tragic joke in there somewhere.

.... and therin lies the rub....... who would dare to complain too loudly and risk ending up being accused of race hate crime if this case is starting point of guilt?

Thanks for telling me what I already know.

My comment was aimed specifically at the post I quoted which was advocating the suppression of the freedom to dislike someone/something and to say so.

In answer to your other point, not even a caution would have been appropriate as it's moot at best whether an offence had even been committed.

In any reasonable person's book, this is over-zealous policing.

To determine if an offence had been committed it'd need to go to court, presumably some kind of pre-trial review though, which could end up with the guy being prosecuted and convicted under the Religious and Racial Hatred act, and going to prison.

Wrong! As all the reports on the case say, it should have gone to the Attourney General's office for verification as to whether action should be taken or not.

Its a bit pointless complaining about intolerant people with horrible views. Its hard to change their minds, but people who aren't trenched in a medieval mind set, sometimes they react to reason and debate.

Groups like Boko Haram and IS need to be destroyed but there is a much wider problem that needs to also be addressed in global politics (notably the rather oppressive regimes in the Middle East that generate this kind of horror - many of which we in the west are happy to help stay corrupt and oppressive).

Debate is about a stating of your position and less about trying to change opinions. Few people end up changing position due to debates with strangers.

As for medieval mindsets, take the views of a significant number of Muslims living in Britain in our multicultural paradise that the left push so much.

Many on the left (with notable exceptions) aren't engaging British citizens with views they don't like because of 'race' and through fear of ridiculous labels from their own ideological side. It's frankly a disgrace and always has been.

It seems you get a 'pass' if you come from a minority.

Thank you Becky (and Stirling)... you made a better job of the point I was trying to make earlier.

It seems that anyone that speaks out about Muslim intolerance towards other religions/cultures is shouted down or met with the old racist jibe by the lefty liberals.

In my opinion if this chap has been cautioned it is unfair and unwarranted... after all surely he is entitled to ask why people of a certain religion are killing and maiming others for no good reason that is logical to normal behaviour?

Thanks. if that's the process, then that's what should have happened.

I think that's a reasonable statement, as there are as many on the liberal and left divide, for whom a debate is about winning, rather than arriving at the right answer - and its definitely a problem.

Of course the division also needs to be understood along with the evidence of the argument - and there is a tendency on the right to blur the evidence into an unfair generalisation of the whole to suit their argument.

No one should get a pass. Statements should stand and fall on their capacity to defend their proof. Winning an argument for me, is about engaging with the evidence and arguments presented, and allowing them to influence me where they seem stronger.

The police should have replied to the tweet "nothing to do with us" and been the end of it.

It's a shame there isn't an equivalent charge to "wasting police time" for the public.

Normally the CPS, sometimes the Attorney General.
