The Gov could help the BRITISH steel industry by just charging 5% VAT oe 0 rated on all they make for the next 2 years, that would be better than putting import charges on China steel which would lead to other trade Friction. Not allowed to be done under EU rules. At all, a total non-starter.

So Tata raped the f*** out of it by selling off carbon emission permits. Another blinding EU scheme that one. They're estimated to have walked away with between £700m & £1.4bn for allowing other companies to pollute more than they should.
