I signed it.... over 400,000 people have now signed that petition.

How can a judge or magistrate seriously believe a 21 weeks suspended prison sentence is a just and appropriate outcome for what they did?

400,000 people who are wrong. It is the responsibility of the Judge and justice system to determine sentences, not politicians - Demanding such based on single emotive cases, undermines the concept of a fair and impartial trial. A judge cannot sentence based on what the 'mob' feel, but on the evidence presented in court in a case.

Politicians are not impartial to public opinion, Judges must be, if we are to have a free and fair justice system. Even if that means we don't agree with the verdict.

We'll we are British, so celebrities are raised up so that the media can throw them back down into the mud.

Apparently the Solicitor General can request that a sentence be reviewed by the court of appeal. They're an MP. So I guess, it should be him, rather than the Prime Minister that the petition should be aimed at.

I believe anyone can appeal that a sentence is not sufficient.

Then maybe those 400,000 people should be actually appealing rather than demanding that someone does it on their behalf.

Sometimes you really get my goat with your insistence on telling us all the benefit of your "wisdom" in a high handed fashion.

Is there not one subject or situation that you aren't the world's leading authority on it?

Anyway.... 400,000+ and I suspect many millions more like-minded people up and down the country who think these two odious excuses for human beings deserve a proper sentence to merit the scale of suffering they inflicted on a defenceless animal does not constitute a "mob".

Judges have been known to be wrong with their sentencing and pressure can be brought to bear from the public and the government to make them reconsider their decisions.

The Judge in this case has fallen woefully short of proper justice in this episode according to public opinion.

Always confuses me as to why some seem more concerned about animal welfare than the deaths of innocents escaping persecution or people being bombed in the name of their government.
That's not to say what these chaps did was horrible.

Well obviously its a sliding scale.

White British Men
White British Women
Pets
Indian People
Ethnic British people who aren't of Indian heritage
Foreigners who are mostly white and speak english
Dole claimants
Criminals
Foreigner's who don't speak English
Sex offenders
Paedophiles
The poor
Asylum Seekers.

I'm not sure where children fit on the scale, because if they're victims their saintly, but if they're criminal they're demons.

Always confuses me why you bring up a totally irrelevant point.

This thread is about animals, not migration or war.

I am confused by this innate arrogance in the assumption that our lives are somehow more valuable than that of animals. Why?

I've never received anything but love from the dogs that I've owned. Humans, on the other hand, are complete arseholes. A notion furthered by the three examples within your post.
