Sometimes you really get my goat with your insistence on telling us all the benefit of your "wisdom" in a high handed fashion.

Is there not one subject or situation that you aren't the world's leading authority on it?

Anyway.... 400,000+ and I suspect many millions more like-minded people up and down the country who think these two odious excuses for human beings deserve a proper sentence to merit the scale of suffering they inflicted on a defenceless animal does not constitute a "mob".

Judges have been known to be wrong with their sentencing and pressure can be brought to bear from the public and the government to make them reconsider their decisions.

The Judge in this case has fallen woefully short of proper justice in this episode according to public opinion.

I don't know much about cars, glass blowing and am s**t at riddles.

Who won't have heard the evidence, or be basing their views on the case presented by the defence and prosecution, or according to sentencing guidelines. In my heart, yeah I think 21 weeks suspended is a joke - but then I'd also confine them indefinitely, because I'm emotionally swayed by the act not the evidence.

Also the sentence has to be proportional to other similar cases. It can't just be arbitrarily decided by public opinion that would represent an unfair prejudice, no matter nasty these c**ts are.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see people who callously and cruelly abuse animals, pets or otherwise - but public opinion is not a good measure of how justice can be served - as it serves the media coverage, not the trial.

Always confuses me why you bring up a totally irrelevant point.

This thread is about animals, not migration or war.

Its kind of relevant, as it demonstrates that we care far more about a pair of c**ts who abuse a dog, than say people displaced by IS. A lot of people would be very happy to take in a rescued dog, but would be outraged about accepting refugees.

Personally, I'm inclined towards the idea of real rights for animals similar to how we protect children with greater zeal than adults.

I'd say though the more relevant comparison would be between these two, and the meat industry, which perpetuates an incredible amount of animal suffering in order to fulfil a human pleasure (eating meat).

That's not to say what these chaps did was horrible.

It's not difficult to comprehend.

Animals are not able to speak up for themselves and suffer far more abuse than humans do.

If these "chaps" did that to a baby the sentence would be 30+ years, not 21 weeks suspended.

Erm, read my post again.

Yep, still irrelevant.

If someone had posted something like "poor dog, unlike those migrants or people in a war" it would have relevance, but no one has.

This is simply you being "right on". I'm going to show I care not just about animals, but migrants and victims of war too cause I'm so right on...

It's not really the same commitment is it?

Then maybe those 400,000 people should be actually appealing rather than demanding that someone does it on their behalf.

An anti-abortion group in Northern Ireland has appealed the sentence given to a woman who induced her own miscarriage.

I have no idea why we allow Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK, to have such archaic rules on abortion but that's another topic altogether.

Purely in the interests of balance, I typically very much enjoy your input, JM, and find you to be an excellent and welcome contributor. Generally intelligent, knowledgeable, considered and funny. (Especially the disposed-of mutilated prostitutes' bodies bits.) I don't imagine this is a unique view.

But the traffickers will beat them with belts if they complain.
