I know this is only going to be seen as a semi-serious answer, but I vaguely remember going to Selhurst to watch Wimbledon vs Aston Villa when I was a kid. Vinnie Jones (of Snatch/Lock Stock fame but used to dabble in football when he wasn't performing in top quality movies) came on for Wimbledon and all the Dons fans booed him along with the Villa fans.

I saw George Best when he was at his peak and opposition fans groaned as the ball went to him, he was that good.
Best defender: Bobby Moore, who I also saw jump out of his skin when a teenage girl who had spotted him, screamed as if he were a pop star as he went to his car in the West Ham car park. The car, incidentally, was a very average Cortina or similar-no blacked out windows like certain modern-day players own.
In distant days, I sat near Iain Philip as he travelled to the ground on a 68 bus and also craggy John McCormack with his sons on a bus. How many players would/should risk travelling by bus these days?

Could've been worse, look at what Gary Lineker had to drive.

I've seen Best, Moore, Banks, the Charlton bros, Hurst, Stiles, Greaves, Osgood, Bonetti, Shilton, Eusebio, Koeman and loads more younger internationals like Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Hoddle Gazza etc at Wembley in Internationals, European Cups and at Stamford Bridge, Anfield and Selhurst Park. I used to go to watch England a lot in the late 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's as well as watching club football.

I'll bet Willo will trump my list though.

I'd do him on cricketers or anyone else probably, any day though.... I used to work with Bill Athey in the close season when he stopped touring with England and he introduced me to 100's of first class cricketers at the county ground in Bristol. Some real class ones like Dennis Lillee, Merv Hughes, David Boon, Courtney Walsh, Alan Lamb....

I can't beat any of those but as Hoof went away from football, i'll have a go.
When i was younger i played Bobby Fischer in an en masse speed game in John Keats house in Hampstead and then went on to watch England vs Australia at Lords in the afternoon.

I refuse to believe there are that many people out there that can't spell. Too f**king lazy, that's what I think.

Famous isn't the best! Seen plenty of famous players watching England.
People talk about George Best performances or goals and how you had to be there. I always remember us losing 0-3 at home to Liverpool in December 1997 and a young 18 year old Michael Owen scoring a fantastic individual goal. That was one of those moments.
I also met various famous players in the players lounge in the days when the players would have a pint after the game. Remember in particular having a chat with Robbie Fowler & Steve Macmannaman and also Denis Wise of all people after that rain soaked cup game in 1993 - he was injured but it didn't affect his drinking!

Following Palace since 25 Feb 1978

I used to work for a bank years ago and Colin Ingleby McKenzie was a director. WE seemed to have close ties with Hampshire and the captains often worked for us in the close season.

We had a marquee at the Hants Sussex game and Malcom Marshall came along to say hello and have his photo taken with the twelve year old son of one of my clients. Marshall put his arm round the lad's shoulder and his arm was wider than the lad's neck
