I think it works as an approach if rather than focusing on one religious group, you include all religious groups.

There are plenty of schools with a predominantly Catholic or Protestant bias.

Of course, I'd generally go one step further and remove religion from schools entirely, even private schools.

You are right of course I am a cathloic and my children go to a catholic school. Most of the children say about 80% of the children that attend the school are cathloic also. The differance is, that Britain is a christain country, therefore the schools are going to reflect that.

This is a perfect excuse to ban all selective religious schools. Britain claims to be at the front of progressive thinking so let's stop being selective about which progress we like and do what should be done. It is a bloody scandal that religion still dictated people's education and who they school with.
It's time to get tough with all religion and it's so called leaders and to hell with pandering to various groups for votes.
Imagine how the situation will be when Muslims double and triple in numbers and start dominating big city politics. Then religious dogma will be king again in the 21st century.

I want to see a follow up series- 'What British Working Class White Men Think." I suspect you will get some equally unsavoury and nasty views. Ironically, they'd probably agree with extremist views on homosexuality, amongst other things! Maybe that's the way to seek common ground?

I watched it- typically scaremongering, but somewhat interesting. Essentially, there are more than a few nutjobs in Muslim communities (or at least in the sample...). So... just like every other demographic in the UK then!

I'm sure the EU Out camp will make full use of it!

Wonderful balance. Well done.

One small detail though. I don't think Alf Garnett ever declared a Jihad, joined an illegal terrorist organisation, persuaded anyone to detonate a suicide vest or cut anyone's head off.
He did treat his wife quite badly and support West Ham I suppose.

Am I nitpicking?

I'd argue that children don't have religion, its selected for them by their parents. A six or seven year old is mastering tying their own shoelaces, and adding up. The idea that they actually have any capacity to understand complex theological and metaphysical concepts to sufficiently make a decision is absurd.

Children aren't Christian, or Muslim - Parents make that decision for them.

You can't ban religion in schools that's bordering on liberal fascism (if such a thing exists LOL ). I think what would be more palatable to the more religious (gullible) among the electorate would be to make it a choice at senior school that you could choose to drop, and instead take up something more based in reality, like an extra science.

Personally I think all current religious thinking is bollocks, and anyone who kills over it does not have the power of rational thought, and is no further up the ladder of life than a speck of s*** on a flies arse.

We've had people from far right groups in the UK arrested for bombings, possession of explosives and engaged in acts of violence aimed at people. Groups like Combat 18, the National Front etc all have quite a bit of prior in this area.

Even on the far left, we've had the Angry Brigade, Class War. Then you also have the Animal Liberation Front. I think there was also a campaign of letter bombs aimed at the DVLC over speed cameras.

Then of course you do have sectarian Catholic / Protestant groups, and of course the Northern Irelands assorted paramilitaries. Definitely a white working class problem.

I don't think the problem of terrorism and violence is specifically a Muslim thing. Right now, its the main one, granted, but there has kind of been a 'war on Muslims' for the last 15 years or so.

This is all about the parents. They want little Declan and Aileene to be just like them or more likely, better Catholics (or whatever)than them. The kids well being is being decided by the terminally brainwashed.

The cycle has to be broken.

The US has had a long history of terrorism by the Anti-Abortion movement, and has been cagey about even labelling them as terrorism.

Granted, not as prolific in terms of casualties as Al-Qaeda inspired terrorism, but certainly a lot more prolific and entrenched than Al-Qaeda in US society - and vocally very heavily supported through the Christian Right.

I think it represents a kind of hypocracy that is acceptable to the masses, the idea that we'd never let the state 'indoctrinate our children' but we're happy to bombard them with religious propaganda and reinforce that with their own behaviour.

Stop spoiling my rhetoric.

I think we have to deal with the here and now. If we were talking about any other group then the same rules would apply. The key thing here is numbers. We are talking about a change to the demographic that will have an impact on our politics and allow religion to grow stronger. The fact that there are elements that allies themselves to terrorists makes the whole thing more problematic.
