Most riffs and chords can be traced back to Beethoven, Mozart etc anyway. There is only a finite number of chords and in 2 or 3 hundred years of "formal music" that has been either recorded or notated some of it has been repeated. I expect Beethoven probably nicked some of his choons from a wandering minstrel he heard in the marketplaces of Vienna (before he went deaf obviously). Why have this band waited so long to bring this action now (or even 2013).... Jimmy wrote it in 1971.

This has been known for a long time. It's hardly a revelation to find out that a band stole a bit of a song. There has hardly been a song ever written that did not steal from or was not at least influenced by another. That's how music works. I could give many examples but I can't be bothered. yeah, i get that but it's not just any old song here and there's the story and provenance of where it was written. This is almost as bad as Natalie Imbruglia and 'Torn'.

it just boils down to whether the original tracks artist chooses to pursue it I suppose . Edited by richard shaw (og)65 (12 Apr 2016 11.43am)

Tears for Fears the thieving navel-gazers have never admitted 'borrowing' the intro from Andrew Gold's 'Never Let Her Slip Away' for 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World'. Don't know how they can sleep at night on that banknote-stuffed mattress.

The worst crime was Manfred Mann's "I bring Joy"... lifted from Holst's Planet Suites "Jupiter".

Here is a topical one for Cameron. Sorry can't add music links from work Start!" is based on both the main guitar riff and bass riff of The Beatles' 1966 song "Taxman" from the album Revolver, written by George Harrison.[3] Likewise, The Jam's "Dreams of Children" had featured the same "Taxman" bassline, played then as a lead guitar riff.
