People in rural areas living between 120m and 300m of the high-speed line can claim up to Ł22,500.

Spending on infrastructure in the UK is far better than giving it foreign countries, where most of it immediately goes missing.

I live in Bristol, so will get nothing tangible from HS2. We'll be left with something tangible- a white elephant too expensive for the plebs. And saving a whole 30 minutes travel time too!!! Worth the Ł40 odd billion

I'd rather have the extra funding for the NHS so it's there when (if?) I (and everyone else) need it, or social care, education, whatever.

Why not spend billions building a 300 foot gold statue of Queen Victoria in Slough- at least that would leave us something tangible too
